ebensburg
Ebensburg is a great town, has walmart, mcdonalds, burgerking, kfc
population is mostly white. Housing usualy goes anywhere between $400- 700 rent.
school system is Central Cambria very nice school.
I would say ebensburg is a very safe place to live and there are plenty of small towns surrounding ebensburg if you didnt want to live in the city.

Not sure if you moved yet or not, but a piece of advice is that Ebensburg is to those other towns as Mount Pilot is to Mayberry. If you live out in Revloc or Nanty Glo get ready to meet some backwards slack jawed in-bred yokels.
Not that Ebensburg is High Society either. Do some Google searches on Central Cambria and see how many times they are in the news before you decide.

Ebensburg is more of a "town" than "city". It's small. It's the county seat, so it has the courthouse. The county jail (newer ~ 5 yrs old) is just outside the town near the county nursing home. They've recently beautified the 'downtown' district with new sidewalks and streetscaping, etc. The business owners try to keep their properties nice. The neighborhoods aren't bustling. All in all it's pretty quiet.
The major shopping district is just on the town's outskirts along US Rte 22. But the downtown is perking up a bit with two restaurants open, a new pub/bar opening. It's property values are higher than average for the area. The school district ... can't really comment on. Lots of people say it's good, but don't know much about it. There's also Bishop Carroll High School.
But yes, the area is mostly white. I'd classify a good portion of the residents as professional-types. Either lawyers, doctors, nurses or teachers. Then there's the county workers and the prison guards. It does have it's fair share of 'blue-collar' type folks too - coal miners and farmers.
There's not a whole lot activity-wise. There's a new tennis facility that's been opened. There's the Northern Cambria recreational building (skating, hockey, multi-purpose). There's Lake Rowena for fishing... not large but it's there. They have the county fairgrounds that only gets busy during county fair week (1st week in September). No movie house, no theater. It's really rather quiet and not a lot of crime activity.
Some of the other towns mentioned are a bit of a drive -- 10 to 15 miles away. Cresson and Loretto are the two closest. They're both 'college towns' but not large or party types (nothing like State College). Cresson has Mt. Alyosious and Loretto has St. Francis.
If you want to do anything, plan on driving to Johnstown, Altoona or Pittsburgh.
