Hi, I grew up in Detroit and them we moved to Tennessee when I was a teenager. After 15 years of living here I am ready to move. I want to move somewhere safe, clean, that has good schools, and not too expensive to live. I do not want to live in a rural area again, but I don't have to be in the middle of a big city either. I want to be able to shop and to go places without an hour drive. I need more than just a Wal-Mart! I am planning a trip in June to come look at some areas. If anyone had any idea of a good places to look please let me know.

Not a big city, cheap, not rural, more than just Walmart, safe, clean....

Well, from the first I'd say you've ruled out Philly & Pittsburgh. And rural takes out much of PA.

Erie is a choice, it's relatively safe for it's size, cheap to live, more than Walmart; however it IS a rustbelt city, and since you have lived in Detroit, I'm sure you know (although having been to Detroit, Erie is nowhere near as rundown, jmho though). All the schools in the county are good, probably stay out of the city schools though.

After that....Scranton maybe? I can't vouch for it, but my guess is it fits your criteria. Harrisburg might possibly be another.

I'd say Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Erie, Altoona, Bethlehem, Easton, Lancaster, and Williamsport would be good places to look.
