Luckily they have all been dog ticks and haven't had a deer tick yet.

On a side note, I've also noticed a ton more spiders this year.
Ticks seem to be already disappearing in my neck of woods(West NC), which is early, because normally they are out to get their first blood meal in late April, all of May and most of June, but by July through the rest of summer they rarely hitch a ride. Spring was very early here so everything is ahead by at least 6wks.
Rumor has it that the upcoming winter will make up for the last unusually warm one, even down south.

eclipticX,

Your welcome!

If you click on the link, that our moderator provided with post #2, and then hit on prevention; you will see they mention a four poster deer treatment bait station. That is one way that we could reduce this threat.

However, for most people; just keeping your pets treated will help. Pets will bring the little buggers into your home. You might stay on the path, while walking your dog; but your dog or cat will not. Letting pets just run is asking for trouble. Even if your pet is treated; it can still transport the ticks inside or home to you.

All that said; you can take all the precautions and still get bitten. Your friends/acquaintances might have pets or walk in the woods. The actual deer ticks are very small and could be easily overlooked. Ticks like to seek out warm, moist areas of our bodies that might not be that easy to check. Most of the ticks, that we do spot, are not deer ticks. Here is a link that could help you identify deer ticks: http://www.oes.org/html/how_2_identify_different_ticks.html It would still pay to save any ticks that you would find on you for later identification - early treatment is the only way to prevent long term problems.

Don’t drive yourself totally nuts over the problem. The vast majority of people, even in the red zones, will not contract Lyme Disease. Just be aware and take the steps to minimize your odds/exposure. Have a safe summer.
