Default Trip through PA

We will be traveling to Birkshire NY and back from Virginia Beach. We'll be traveling through PA and wondering about attractions. I grew up in southern NJ so I'm familiar with Stroudsburg, Lancaster, Dorney Park and Hershey Park. Wife is a coaster freak. Any places we should hit on the way home? We don't have kids.

Stop in and see some of the historic sites in Center City Philadelphia (just look up Independence Hall or Independence Mall State Park) or the King of Prussia Mall... I assume you will be taking 476 home so you just hope onto 76 (schuykill expressway) and it will take you right into Center City Philadelphia (if you take it east) or King of Prussia (if you take it west).

P.S. if you do go to Philadelphia you have to walk around the streets of Society Hill down around 5th and Pine Street area.

If you want to make your wife happy, take her to Knobels amusement park. It may or may not be out of the way for you, but it's so worth it.

I second this... great place. I was going to suggest Bushkill falls as well but that is WAY out of the way.

You can add my voice to the "second" on Knoebel's; and if you're heeaded for the Berkshires from there, you could take I-81 to Binghamton, then I-88 to Albany via Oneonta; this has long been a favorite alternative for me.

We're not worried about out of the way. When the race is over, we'll be heading someplace for her to have fun. Might just go back to Hershey as it looks like Knoebel's only has two coasters. Also, after reading so many poor reviews of their campground, I'm not sure we'd have fun there. Thanks though and keep the suggestions coming.

If where you're going is the town/hamlet of Berkshire, Tioga County, NY, on NY 38 north of Owego (and nowhere near the Berkshire mountain range in Massachusetts), that's not too far from Ithaca which is a funky college town with natural and cultural activities. You can probably park the motor home in the Walmart parking lot and use the city bus to get around even to some of the state parks, check out the Ithaca threads in the NY forum for many links.

Between Waverly/Sayre on I-86 just west of Owego, and the Harrisburg area, if you use US 220/I-180/US 15 you have only one real hill (between Towanda and Picture Rocks on 220) to get over with that rig, I-81 will have many more. You'll be sharing the US 220 hill with fracking trucks so you won't be holding people up.

If you don't like what Knoebels has then Hersheypark is definitely your nearest coaster destination on your route.

Thanks, she decided she wants the coasters of Hershey again so we made our reservations there. Thanks for all the suggestions.
