How is Mansfield, and Wellsboro, PA?
Hey all.
Ok here's the deal. I got some decisions to make and one of my options is relocating to Wellsboro and/or Mansfield, PA.
Would any one here be gracious enough to tell me a little about either one of the cities - like does either have a mall, bookstore, comicshop, art supply store, what is the night life like, is it near any metropolitan city - basically what does someone in the 25-40 age range have to look forward if they're single, and no kids?
Or is it for people who are more "established" (ie, with a family or in the retirement age)?
Thanx all.

What do Wellsboro and Mansfield have?
Beautiful scenery; kind, friendly people; colorful falls; cold, snowy winters; Mansfield has a university; Wellsboro has the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and Animaland (a small zoo). Both have a few restaurants and specialty stores.
The closest mall is probably the Lycoming Mall in Muncy (near Williamsport, about an hour south) or maybe the Arnot Mall in New York. I don't believe there's much nightlife unless the college crowd is up to something in Mansfield. Both towns are lovely but very small and a bit on the remote side. I'd definitely recommend a visit before making any final decisions.

I live near Mansfield and have enjoyed it very much since moving here from North Carolina, which I hated. Both Mansfield & Wellsboro are about the same size of 3500-4000 people. Mansfield is anchored around the University, small but nice downtown with coffee shops that have some live entertainment on weekends. There is also growing retail that includes Walmart, all the fast food chains, Peebles, and soon a Lowes and one of the larger chain restaurants like Applebees. Wellsboro is a little more islolated in my opinion because I like to be able to reach Elmira/Corning in 30 min. or less. Wellsboro has a very cool downtown, close to the canyon & numerous large state parks/forests. There are a couple good restaurants in each.
The closest mall is the Arnot Mall in between Elmira & Corning, which is about 35-40 min. from Mansfield. It's much larger than Lycoming besides being closer & there is a significant amount of retail surrounding the mall area as well as a good airport that connects to Phila & Detroit. Corning has a great downtown, multiple good restaurants, live music, etc. The key for someone 25-40 to live happily in Mansfield/Wellsboro would be to remember to look north rather than south. We're much more a part of upstate NY than PA, just we have a lower cost of living than NY. If you're moving here for a job, I'd recommend focusing on one of the communities closer to the NY line or maybe even living in Corning itself. Job prospects are actually good compared to neighboring areas, unemployment has been equal to or less than the state average. Major employers range from the international HQ of Corning Inc, Sylvania Lighting, Hitachi Metals (two plants), Sikorsky to more medium-sized companies, especially in the wood industry.

i too was looking to possibly relocate to the Wellsboro area. I was just wondering how accepting life long residents are to new comers? My wife and I want to relocate so our son doesn't have to grow up where we did.

People are very welcoming to visitors. We've always been treated wonderful. I have to believe anyone would be treated the same way as long as you don't bring some kind of trouble to the area, it is one of the very few and far between truly safe places in our commonwealth.

I would suggest getting a good map of Pennsylvania and taking a look it.

Agreed. One good option might be to consider Tunkhannock, PA, which is a small quiet town about a half-hour from either Scranton or Wilkes-Barre for nightlife, recreation, etc.
