Just drove by ABF in Carlisle yesterday and they have the banner out for hiring city drivers again. I think city driving for them is some tricky Class A and definitely not no-touch though. And I think even union dues still.
I liked the Carlisle area. I joined a gun club for skeet shooting, they have some pretty good game lands for hunting and I also liked fishing in the area. The cost of living was much better than here in Monroe County – better competition (choice).

I drove for CF (in Carlisle – where Old Dominion now sits) and Roadway/Yellow in Tannersville. I never did drive city – it always scared me having to negotiate city traffic. Nobody wants to cut you a break. I was content to drive through the cities and not do the peddling.

But to the OP; I think the only 'home every night' trucking jobs were the feed haulers and construction in that area. It is the north/south – east/west way station for most of our east coast freight.

I live in Warren, which is not far from Erie, about 60 miles. A lot of people I know go over into New York to work, better wages and it's only about a 20 minute drive. The jobs pay better up there. There are plenty of companies in town that look for drivers like what you do. There's also Ellwood (formally The National Forge) and the United Refinery. We own a house now that's pretty nice and under 500 a month. Before we rented a place for under 400. The cost of living here is pretty low and it's not hard to find a decent place to live for a good price. We're about 30 minutes from I-80. There's plenty to do if you are into the outdoors.

North East, PA may also be another option and is a nice place close to Erie and Buffalo.
