I always found it a very nice city, very friendly, a nice size, and generally a good "family" town. My oldest two kids were born there. Sure, the winters can be brutal, but you get used to it. And there isn't a whole lot of sunshine, but it's the same where I am now, in SW Pa.

I laugh at people in Pittsburgh when they complain about the cold and snow

Either you are being sarcastic or have no idea how boring Waterford really is. It's just an old farming town.

Hi, im considering moving to erie in april, i was going to move to somewhere else until i saw how cheap the cost of living was. people from california are moving here and you cant even rent a 1 bedroom apartment here for under $600, and its not gonna include your utilities. so when i saw apartments going for $350 i was completly shocked!, anyways my question is
does erie get tornados or thunderstorms? and how much snow on average do you get?
when i moved here to arizona, (i live in flagstaff) they said it gets 100 inches of snow here but i dont even think they get 40 inches a year. i love snow so the more the better
thanks

Erie averages over a hundred inches of snow per winter, but that can vary drastically. Southwestern Erie County communities like Albion have seen there share of tornadic activity over the past 20 years, and yes, thunderstorms do form frequently ahead of a cold front along Lake Erie in the volitaile spring.

Erie does get tornadoes and thunderstorms. I used to live on the plains smack in the middle of Tornado Alley. The storms in Erie are minor. Fun, but nothing to worry about.
The amount of snow depends on where you live. The snowbelt affects different areas harder than others.

Don't be skeered! Thunderstorms are as frequent as anywhere else, but tornadoes are rare.
Yeah, it snows a lot, but snow doesn't bring the city to a standstill. Unless the snow falls a foot an hour, it's business as usual. You'll be satisfied with the snowfall, I think.
