Hello! This is my first post here. I'm flying out next week to interview for a position at the Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant. My wife and I have been doing as much online research as possible, but we'd really like to hear from the people that live in the area. We don't have children yet and, when we do, we plan on home-schooling them. So, schools aren't really a big deal to us. We just want to live less than 40 minutes drive from my job, and less than 20 minutes drive from a Starbucks where she can work while she finishes her degree. We'd like to buy a 4 bedroom fixer upper and, though we could afford it, we don't want to spend more than $150,000. Some land would be nice too. We don't need the city life but like being close enough to it to enjoy it every now and then. We need the basics, Wal-Mart, Target, Malls, Department Stores, Grocery Stores. We're really into farmer's markets. We love parks and like to go trail running and we're total gym rats as well. I'd love a Gold's Gym. And the lower the crime, the better. I don't want to carry my gun around. I know this is a TON of stuff, but any information you all can give us would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

telesis, You may be in for a bit of a shock. You will see what I mean when you travel from whatever airport you are arriving at to the plant.
Peach Bottom is in a very rural area. Delta, PA is the closest 'town'. Check out the stats on it. I lived there many years ago. Getting groceries was a day long event. You may need to adjust your travel times if you want most of the things you mentioned. You will find land, and you should be able to find a fixer upper close by. If you go north to the Red Lion area on Rt74, there is a small shopping area with a WalMart that has been added in recent years. Just north of that is York, and you will find everything you are looking for. From south of Red Lion, it takes 30-40 minutes to the plant. Add 20+ minutes to get there from York with traffic. You may wish to seek info about the southern Lancaster Co. area. Willow Street is probably the largest town. You would head east over the Norman Wood Bridge on Rt372. Then make a left onto Rt272/222 at Buck. I'm not going to be much help with travel time on that one, but it is more rural than going to Peach Bottom from York. Also, the Bel Air, MD area may be of interest to you. |
