Default Lancaster County question.

I'm looking to relocate from New Jersey and absolutely love Lancaster County. My question is are there any jobs out there? Where do people work who live out there? Let me know what's good and bad about the area. Thanks in advance.

Check out my Harrisburg area thread. Lancaster and nearby Harrisburg have a very low unemployment rate and the job market is pretty tight. The good news is there are several Harrisburg area employers who are going to be doing a lot of hiring in the near future. A lot of people in Lancaster county drive to Harrisburg for work and some even commute to Philly via Rt 30 or Amtrak. Lancaster county's economy generally revolves around agriculture, tourism and some manufacturing.

Anything to do with the service/tourism industry. Working as restaurant help, sales people, tour guides, motel clerks, Dutch Wonderland (amusement park). Lancaster is a large city with it's own population, but I'll bet there are times during the year when it seems doubled with tourists. Lots of stores, automobile showrooms, retirement communities etc., all needing help.

Lancaster County has the lowest unemployment rate in the state. There seems to be alot of blue collar and service jobs available. As danwxman said most people drive to the Harrisburg and Philly areas for work.

The 3 biggest companies located in the Lancaster/Harrisburg areas would probably be Hershey's, Armstrong, and Rite Aid.

My husband is a forklift mechanic and his company as well as several others have branches there: Forklifts Inc., Lift Inc. and I think at least one more.

What type of work are you looking for?
