I grew up on LI, and went to Bloomsburg, graduated in '90. There were some other students from LI, but not many. People joked about my accent, but not mean spirited.
In all, I loved it there. No regrets about going there. Good school, had a great time while I was there. Still keep in touch with many of my friends from there.

Trust me, there are many more NYers coming to PA to further their educations than ever before, so there probably won't even be any more jokes about the accent. I go to King's College in Wilkes-Barre, and the number of NY/NJ license plates in my commuter parking lot seem to outnumber PA plates 2:1. The University of Scranton, Wilkes University, East Stroudsburg University, and good 'ole Bloom are also magnets for the NY/NJ crowd, so you'll be in good company. Personally, I like the NYers a bit better than many of the native students; many of you seem to be more open-minded to new ideas and less "sheltered" in life. Anyone from NY considering coming to college in PA should feel very comfortable in doing so.

landlords in bloom are under increased regulation. a few yrs back there was a fatal fire and too many students living there.
bloomsburg is 8 miles from danville which has world class medical center.
i might add- the tuition and reputation of bloom os good,.

I spent a year at Bloomsburg. Its a nice little town. You won't feel out of place as a good half of the students there are from New Jersey with some New Yorkers. BUT...I didn't care too much for the school itself. There's three words that describe Bloom....TOGA TOGA TOGA! If you want a party school, then Bloomsburg is for you...if you want education, then look elsewhere.

My daughter went to Bloomsburg.....we lived in N Jersey at the time.
It is a charming town. They have a great fair every year and another great festival. She didn't feel out of place really.....the classmates were friendly.
I will say she got two wonderful jobs after attending Bloomsburg.
She got to travel to Mexico and be the interpreter for her boss and others, as she was the only one to understand Spanish.
I think you would feel just fine.......
They go out to the mall and the town has a lot of shops. It is a University you know.....and the tuition and costs are darn good......
Its just straight off of 80 too.......
.....good luck.....enjoy!!!

I visited the college a few years back when I was looking at colleges. The only things I remember about the area is that there is almost nothing to do there and the campus was on a hill and had some pretty ugly buildings.
