A website that has good demographic information about communties is SchoolMatters - Home I know the name implies that it's just about schools but if you hunt just a little bit you can find the average income and education level of the residents. For instance, I put in Marietta, PA and it came up with two schools, Donegal MS and Riverview Elementary. (I assume the HS is in a neighboring town) I clicked on Donegal MS and then on community demographics and found that 87.1% of the population has a HS diploma and 21.3 have college diplomas and that it's slightly less then the state avg. of 87.3/25.8. The same page shows the income levels and age demographics. Anyway, these are just numbers but might come in handy to weed out some towns before visiting.

Tremont, Pine Grove, Valley View and Hegins are very nice small towns in close proximity. Also Halifax is a cool little town. I work in Harrisburg, but reside in Tremont. It is not a bad commute to H-burg, Reading, Lancaster or hershey from these towns. And they are AFFORDABLE!

The town of Jim Thorpe: Very cool, very neat little town in Carbon County. It looks like a village out of a Mother Goose Fable, and it's nestled in the mountains. I've traveled all over Pa. through a former job of mine, and Jim Thorps is definately one one Pa's best kept secrets.

Pottsville PA, population 14,000, has a good education system, historic downtown, and a great park system (JFK Park most notably). Lots of history and victorian architecture too.

Ebensburg PA is a very nice town with a population of about 2500. Nice people and the town is steadily improving. It's located in Cambria County on Route 22 about 10 miles North of Johnstown, 80 Miles East of Pittsburgh. A nice Catholic college in town and an excellent high school and a catholic elementary school. Great town to raise a family- new library. No industry worth talking about, though. It's cold there in the winter. I once lived there.
