Hi,
We are looking to move to State College this fall. My seven year old daughter will be in second grade. My husband and I both work full time. Can anyone give me any information (quality, times, price) on the before and after school programs in the public elementary schools?
Thank you.

Hi there! Welcome to State College. Before and after school programs are offered at all of the State College elementary schools.
Radio Park, Easterly Parkway, Ferguson Township, and Lemont/Houserville are served by the Child Development and Family Council: The Child Development and Family Council of Centre County
Corl Street, Park Forest, Gray's Woods, and Mt. Nittany are served by the YMCA: YMCA of Centre County - Child Care - YMCA of Centre County
The school district is also starting their own program and are trying it out at Park Forest and Radio Park. http://www.scasd.org/cms/lib5/PA0100...dio%20Park.pdf

I know that CDFC will be finding an offsite facility for their program for Radio Park students. I would assume that the YMCA would be doing the same for Park Forest students.
I can personally say that CDFC runs a nice program, with a good mixture of free play and structured activities. Not sure about the YMCA's program, but I'm sure it is good as well. Not so sure about the new program the school district is starting. Sounds really good, but I also noticed that it is also a lot more expensive.
Good luck with your move! School aged childcare is so important, yet I'm sure you will be happy with any of these programs.

Wow! thank you. I did not know Park Forest and Radio Park had those programs this year, those sound like activities my daughter would really enjoy. Do you know if it will be too late to sign up for before/after school care if we start the school year late (say early October)?

I'm not sure, but I'm sure if you contact community education they could provide more information. I'm interested to see how that program will work and what people say. It sounds like some great activities will be included, however I know that the parents from Radio Park and Park Forest are saddened to see the programs that they loved "kicked out", so to speak, of the schools. I personally know some parents from Radio Park who where trying to get the school district to reconsider because they really liked the program that the Child Development and Family Council runs. All in all, I guess that shows you that all of the programs are quality ones.
