Default Mercer, Venango, Clarion

My husband and I recently went on a trip that led us through Mercer, Venango, and Clarion counties. I was surprised that he loved the drive! He is tired of the rat race in the city. He is ready to sacrifice a pay cut for a better lifestyle. We love the four seasons, so snow is not a problem. I would appreciate any information that you could give me on living in these counties.

Land is cheap but they have laws about subdividing so lots tend to be large, many acres in size on the older farmsteads. There are no new housing developments being built, so nobody is moving there. Jobs? Not too many so either be able to retire or like long commutes or get by on a modest income. Restaurants up there are few and far between, a few semi decent chain restaurants, so learn to cook.
Wide open spaces and good natural areas, lakes, swamps, do make it attractive for outdoor types. Crime isn't bad, drunk driving is a probably the biggest pastime.

I lived in Clarion for 11 years. I loved it. Wholesome town, nice people, good shops, and affordable housing.
