Bad Doylestown (Chester, Plum, Easton: crime, lawyer, townhomes)

So I'm tired of hearing only good things about Doylestown / New Hope area. They are friendly, good schools, no gangs, nice downtown, and pretty. I mean really, we have searched through these boards looking for a place to live and nobody ever says anything negative.

What do people not like about it?

How about the high housing prices?

Traffic congestion on 202, especially down towards Chalfont, would be the only negative that comes to mind.

There is nothing I don't like about Doylestown. In fact my daughter brings her kids from Forks to go to all the fun things they have there.
The Castle, the Giggleberries...They have Castle overnights.
The restaurants and festivals are wonderful.
It is quite the hip place. More like I wish the rest of our towns in Pa. were like. What an example for other town planners.
I can't leave a negative.
Have you gone and checked it out for yourself?

Sure people say negative things about Doylestown on this board. The one I hear over and over is that it's secluded/remote/hard to get to (by the way, I agree with this).

Also, 202 from the end of the 202 bypass just below Doylestown all the way through to King of Prussia was to have been made an expressway 50 years ago, but this being Pennsylvania, the naysayers prevailed, so it's a narrow 2-lane road. However, they are finally building a bypass from Doylestown to Montgomeryville, but, once again this being PA, the bypass will only be 1 lane each way.

Good! I think it's kind of good to have towns a little bit isolated so that there is some sense of community. Don't you hate driving and all you see are one development after another and all the towns run together? By making the infrastructure a little iffy it will keep out the people that don't really want to live in a smallish town.

BTW, I went to Doylestown for the first time on Tuesday. It rocks! Reminded me of Media and West Chester. The only negative I can think of is that it was a little too upscale.

What are Giggleberries?

Haven't been but thinking of moving there with the toddlers so I'll visit it in January/February to see if we can handle wearing pants (we live in Lake Havasu AZ).

OK, so some traffic on the West Side, high prices, and off the beaten track.


What about manners? Please and thank you and you go first or get out of my way watch for the bird?

What about crime? Car doors unlocked or alarmed houses?

What about friendly? Hey let's BBQ/ Hi nice to see you on the street/ I mowed your lawn because I was doing mine/I brought you some pie because you look like you need some or I'm busy let me pencil you in/aloof/let my lawyer talk to your lawyer about the dog.

I grew up in Doylestown. It used to be a much more "secluded" town. Once they put the Starbucks and the GAP in it's really become upscale. The surrounding areas are getting too developed with townhomes and little cookie cutter houses on small lots. Yes, home prices are high. I've heard that crime there has gone up in recent years and you should keep your doors locked now. Again, not sure how it is now, but when I went there drugs were a big problem for the kids. There are a lot of families with lots of money who don't supervise their children enough; but that's up to the parents (not the area).

I would look right outside of Doylestown in Buckingham and Plumstead. It's a beautiful place and even with all the changes I'd move back if I could. People there are like people anywhere, if you reach out and are friendly they're the same way to you.

611 going to Doylestown from Easton is murder. That is the only negative I see.

Sorry! Pa is nice, but that is a little pushing it. But on the other hand you have a better chance of getting those manners than in NJ. In NJ, they will walk ovEr you if you fall. I THINK DTOWN is a nice place to live. Like any place you go, it has its little problems.
