Anderson Travel and Tours is a major employer, and there is a university there, other than that, not much going on.

Some mills closed down, there is a Wal Mart. Commuting is pretty easy with flat country roads that don't get alot of traffic. I guess winter is tough, though.

If you're talking about Greeneville in western PA, alot of people work in Sharon or go over the state line to Boardman Ohio where there's alot of jobs and major growth. There are a few hospitals in the Greeneville area to work at.

Hope this helps!

blessings, Shen

Shenandoah, you're from Ellwood City? I lived there for many years prior to moving to England 7 years ago. Two of my daughters and brother live in Ellwood. I'd like to live closer than 4000 miles to them but am not prepared to move back to Ellwood. I don't know how you feel about the place but I grasped the opportunity to "get the hell out of Dodge" when I had the chance...LOL

I live in Greenville, so I'll give you a rundown of our little town---this is really for anybody, too.

+ Greenville has been populated since the late 1700's. It's a very old town.

+ In the 1870's, when Greenville's downtown was primarily constructed of wood, we experienced two heavy fires just years apart that prompted the city to pass a law saying all downtown buildings must be built of masonry. These buildings are still there, some of them exactly as they were when they were built; it gives the town a very historical look.

+ During the industrial revolution, Greenville was located at the vertex of trade, travel, and industry. Many mansions were built here and the people were generally ridiculously rich. Unfortunately, less than 10 years ago our biggest industrial companies (like Trinity) packed up and left; Trinity went to Mexico. Since then, Pennsylvania has declared Greenville an ecnomically depressed place.

+ There are ways to find jobs, however, if you think outside the box. Greenville has a lot of fast-food industry now. We have McDonalds, Burger King, Arby's, Dairy Queen, Sheetz, Pizza Hut, Fox's Den, Country Fair, Subway (2), Wendy's, et cetera. We also have two Rite Aids, a Fashionbug, Big Lots, Super Walmart, Radio Shack, Hollywood Video, Dollar Tree, auto shops, Perkins, Paxtons, Carini's, Cianci's, UPMC Horizon Hospital, the Stone Arch, Home Instead (non-medical caregiver services for 21+), an ice factory, Giant Eagle, and farm work you can offer to do -- and a lot of other places. That's for non-college graduates. If you have a degree in something, there are other places you can work. We have numerous banks, three schools (from janitor service to teaching), a college, managing positions at stores, costmotology (haircutting) et cetera. The closest towns are 10-20 minutes away, and some more populated ones like Meadville are about 25-30. If you don't mind driving to work every day, there's plenty of work there.

Misc:

+ We have a park (Riverside) with a recreational center.

+ We have a private pool in the park, called the Memorial Pool ($5 admission, or seasonal/permanant passes for more)

+ There are close-proximity places to learn martial arts, et cetera.

+ We live near Pymatuning which attracts major tourism.

+ We have candyshops, furniture stores, clothing stores, and plenty of odds-and-ends.

+ The sidewalk was recently redone downtown, giving it a more New York sort of look; they're wider with planters in sectioned squares all the way down, and a mix of red and grey stone in pattern on them. Very lovely.

+ There are a lot of places to eat here, and two active motels.

+ Rent is generally cheap up here. You can rent a house with three rooms, a bathroom, a front room, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a basement, and an attic for 500 bucks a month (not including utilities). Rent for apartments can fall between 200 and 450 depending on how nice they are. There are several houses for actual sale here, as well; one I recently helped fix up and it is gorgeous.

+ The population is around 6,000 (recently fallen from 10,000+ during the industry boom).

+ Almost everything can be in walking distance (a lot of people do walk to work).

+ The weather here is pretty up and down. In summer the temperature ranges between 70 and 104 degrees. In the winter, it's usually around freezing (30's) but can climb to 55 or fall to -8 (the worst winter I remember was -8 with -45 windchill, equalling a feeling of -25). But in turn, we don't tend to get a LOT of snow. That is, you probably would never have your car trapped in your driveway by a snowdrift. Our biggest problem is ice. But if you salt your driveway (and we do salt the roads and sidewalks), you shouldn't have a problem. We consider the varied weather an interest-keeper. You can usually get by with a windbreaker, because it's usually the windchill that's cold, not the actual temperature, but a thick coat is nice.

+ There are animal breeders here if you like pets. A local breeds Bernese Mountain Dogs and Newfoundlands. I've also heard of Chihuahua breeders, Pomeranian breeders, and pug breeders---et cetera. (I have a full-bred daschund myself).

+ There's an animal shelter here, also, if you prefer saving animals.

Random facts:

+ We're about a 45 minute drive from Niles, a major shopping center, and an hour from Pittsburgh.

+ Greenville used to have some of the most desired hotels in western PA.

+ Harry Houdini performed and slept here.

+ Mark Twain slept here.

+ Greenville is primarily a pro-Steelers territory; other major team fandom includes the Browns and the Patriots.

+ The school teams are called the Greenville Trojans.

+ The school was recently redone and expanded; new books have been received this year. The staff was also revamped.

Default Underlink Mentioned Alot...but Forgot Some

As an animal lover and member of peta...( I am not Vegan) I must say that underlink did not mention that the "animal shelter" he mentioned is a NO KILL SHELTER. Stray Haven is rated #1 . Its the lucky animals that go there.
one thing needed in Greenville is " Animal Cops" or at least a place to call about neglected animals...those on a short lease that live in a "so called dog house" the cats that run through traffic...well Greenville traffic. The ones that live outside always.
Greenvilles ASPCA...get off your BUTT and help

Greenville looks good but there are no jobs unless you like wal mart.
I left greenville a month ago after living there ten years. I loved the small
town way of life but it is economically depressed and will not recover.

I did not mention the animal shelter because I have an extreme problem with it. I live a few houses down from it. The volunteer workers are treated badly and the lady that runs it treats animals badly. One of the volunteer workers discovered a sick kitten shoved in a trashcan in the back room where only she and the lady can go. The kitten was crying and was left there to starve. My mother offered to euthanize it by way of drowning with a cloth and bucket (because it was beyond repair, it looked like), but the lady declined and the volunteer again found it in the trashcan.

The animal shelter is very small and quite dirty. Animals are euthanized to make space and keep them from overrunning as strays; I advocate the euthanization of animals if they have not been adopted for a period of time. I would much rather they be euthanized if sick, unadopted for a long time, et cetera, than kept there, miserable and apparently shoved in trashcans to die.

Update on the jobs in Greenville, the old Rite Aid space is being used to build something else, and K&J's was removed to be replaced with a Family Video rental place. Giant Eagle is also hiring for the summer, as they usually do.

Your Mom wanted to kill it by drowning...she is deranged. Can you imagine yourself being drowned.
You have no credibility now
less talk from you the better
