My apologies, I know when posters come to the Lehigh Valley forum and talk about moving to Allentown that they mean the Allentown area and I should have realized that this poster was probably thinking the same thing.

Hi there! I would definitely recommend Centre County (State College area). I would recommend living in the Bellefonte, Bald Eagle, or Penns Valley school districts. All of these areas have nice small towns, solid schools, friendly people, and most importantly, wonderful country living. Since you don't have to commute you could find a great home in any of these areas. You could be anywhere from 15 minutes to 40 minutes from State College, where you will find the restaurants and shopping that you expect from a small city. I would suggest these areas as opposed to the State College School District if you want small town living. State College is still very much a rural area, but with a high school so large (600ish per graduating class) it misses that small community high school that you will find in Bellefonte (200 per graduating class), Penns Valley(100ish), or Bald Eagle(100-150ish).

This map shows you the Centre County school districts to give you an idea where they are. As you can see, Penns Valley and Bald Eagle especially cover a pretty large geographical area. All three cover multiple towns and villages.

I have friends living in Arkansas so I know how important high school cheer is! Bellefonte has a good program. They have pretty big teams and I know that some of their former cheerleaders have gone on to make the Penn State squads! Not sure about Bald Eagle or Penns Valley also seem good, but smaller. Keep in mind that these schools are small, and that volleyball and soccer are also popular for girls to do in the fall. I know that competitive cheer is also big: Nittany All Star Cheer & Dance.

You should have no problem looking for a home with acreage in your price range. You will probably find some great views!

Here is some school district information:
Bellefonte Area School District / Bellefonte Area School District
Bald Eagle Area School District - BEA Home
Penns Valley Area School District

Look here for houses! You can specify school district:

Welcome and good luck!
