Tioga, Potter taxes
Just starting to look at real estate to relocate here from N.J.
How are the taxes in these two counties. The reason I'd leave N.J is high taxes. I'm surprised that on some P.A properties, the taxes are getting up there too!

don't know for certain, but i would guess that taxes would be pretty cheap there. they are both very rural counties

Many city dwellers have high end camp there, and the hunting business is huge. You'll be surprised too at the price of some small camps.

I am very surprised at the prices. Much higher than I thought.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong state. How would the prices and taxes be in rural New York State. Lets say near the Adirondacks?
I'm looking for a retirement/second home type spot.

you might want to look at forest county in Pennsylvania. it's very rural, there's not even a red light in the county. Around the town of Marienville should have cheaper housing and taxes. Lots of people have summer camps in that area. Its a nice area in the allegheny national forest.

Tioga and/or Potter were about as far west as we wanted to go. We may have to rethink now. I'll check out Marienville. thanks.

I would suggest Elk County or Cameron County as options as well. I have a hard time imagining high real estate prices in Potter County. You will find the area very rural, rugged and beautiful. I hope the search goes well!

I googled it and came back empty-handed. I can't really find anything about property taxes. Potter County is nice, but isolated. Coudersport is the county seat and largest town, with a population of roughly 2,500 ppl. Cameron County is even smaller, with a population of 5,000 ppl. Elk County has a population around 35,000 people, but tends to be rural. Are you planning on living and working in one of these counties? If you are, i can give you more information on Elk, Cameron and Potter counties. I don't know anything about Tioga County. And as for the question at hand-I don't think that the tax rates between the counties will vary that much. Different towns and townships have different tax rates as well.
