Hey there George! Bamboo (Rosanna) is correct; there isn't much in the way of mass transit between the region and NYC (as of yet). Martz Trailways runs commuter buses between Wilkes-Barre and NYC several times per day from its downtown terminal, and more companies may follow suit, as construction of a new downtown intermodal transportation terminal is now underway.
There have been rumors fluttering about for many years about restoring a commuter rail link between Scranton and NYC (possibly with a connection to Wilkes-Barre as well), but that effort has recently picked up steam, as elected officials in both NJ and PA are finally cooperating to make this a reality. Most of the railways are already in place; we just need to cut through the red tape that is otherwise known as the PA and NJ governments! LOL!

With the growing population of NJ/NY transplants in our area, especially in Monroe County, as well as the recent announcement that "Wall Street West" will be bringing thousands of jobs from NYC-based firms to Monroe County, this rail line will become even MORE essential in the upcoming years. I suspect that we'll be able to board a train in Scranton in 2010, bound for Hoboken, NJ, from where you'd take a connector into the city. This is extremely important for me; I'll be graduating from college in 2009, and I hope to utilize this new rail line to commute daily between the region and NYC for employment.
Also, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre International Airport is located midway between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre in my hometown of Pittston Township, just off I-81 and about fifteen to twenty minutes from your upcoming home in Wilkes-Barre. The word "international" is a bit of a joke though; you'd have to grab a connection from Scranton to Pittsburgh, Atlanta, or Detroit and then fly to another nation from those airports!

Nevertheless, the airport just opened a huge, brand new terminal and a new cafe, bringing it into the 21st Century.
