re: Homestead rebates in PA?
I'm assuming because we all pay Property taxes the answer is yes, but do you apply at tax time and receive a Homestead Rebate in PA?

Good question...the only thing I could find as far as a property tax rebate was for the senior citizens, low income or disabled. Please post if you find anything out.
Sounds like you're from Jersey....those of us from NJ are used to getting a Homestead Rebate back around this time of the year. Speaking of, wonder if I got my rebate back for this year...direct deposit here I come....
This is where I looked... Pennsylvania Department of Revenue .

The Homestead rebate is handled on a local level in PA, depending on your county & school district. I live in northern rural PA, for us it tends to work that people with the homestead allowance pay less, rather than pay more then get a rebate. This helps to raise additional revenue from people with seasonal residences or rental properties.

In Pittsburgh/Allegheny County, your county taxes are discounted once you qualify. It happens automatically. You don't need to do anything.

I remember here in Berks County you had to fill out a form when they were in the planning stages of this. If you didn't fill out that original form you did not get the credit. I can't remember if this is the second or third year for it here but I never had to resubmit a form each year. It showed as a credit on your taxes.
Around here you can contact the school district and they will give you the information you need. Each school district has a different rate of reimbursement and it isn't a lot - last year in Wilson School District it was $147.00. Every little bit helps but it seems, in my opinion, the school districts consider this when deciding if it's OK to raise taxes. They figure is they ask for more taxes we won't mind because we are getting a rebate.

Yes, a major disappointment for new PA homeowners. Only low-income seniors apply and the credit is for up to $650 last I read http://www.revenue.state.pa.us/ptrr/...p?a=3&q=258877...or you can wait for your $200 casino check from Rendell. That goes far when the majority of homeowners in my area have property taxes that are over $3000.
Also, beware of the estate and inheritance tax on properties...PA is a killer with taxes.

I called the local tax assessors office and it automatically renews every year once it's initially approved. Hope this is useful to everybody.
