Hello,

Our family will be moving to Pennsylvania soon and my husband will be working in Williamsport. We would really like our family and children to live in State College but are concerned about my husbands commute from State College to Williamsport, especially during the Winter months. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's at least an hour's drive under the best of circumstances. I wouldn't wish that on my husband.

Thank you all for your replies.

After much thought and research we have mixed feelings about raising our family in Williamsport. We value everyone's comments and truly take to heart the decline, drugs and crime and quality of education in Williamsport.

Any recommendations on cities nearby would be greatly appreciated...

Why State College in particular? Incidentally, the commute time on a good day from State College to Wmpt. will be about 1.5 hours. There are upscale areas surrounding Wmpt. like Loyalsock Township, Muncy and Montoursville, which offer good schools and pleasant surroundings. A little farther out, you have Lewisburg (25 minutes to Wmpt. and 70 to State College), which is an upscale university town and one of the prettiest in PA.

My guess would be the fact that Williamsport is home to several drug and alcohol rehabs that attract people from all over PA. Not every patient at rehab is necessarily successful in kicking the habit and they sometimes bring it with them.
