Default Seeking insight on Shippensburg, PA

Hi there! Can anyone familiar with Shippensburg area enlighten me on that area? Are there any active gang problems, drive-bye shootings, drugs, drunks, robberies, rapes, etc. Also how are the public elem, middle and high school(s)? Does anyone have any info. on the curriculum or expectations for Grace Luhrs university Elem. school. How is the downtown (or borough area) as far as noise and crime, etc. Are there any problems at the Sheetz gas station on Queen St. I noticed a cop sits there often-I should have asked him when I was there. It's looked like a clean downtown area to me and I liked that there was a nice university there. But any scope would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

shippensburg is a small, quiet university town. shippensburg has very little, if any violent crime. compared to indiana, pa, the university is much less loud and rowdy than indiana. i know nothing about the schools, though i have heard they are good.
i doubt there are any problems at the sheetz. from what i've seen, cops often hangout at sheetz stores in different towns. especially late at night on a weekend, they often will find people who have been drinking at sheetz.
its a nice small town. quite a few rednecks there. there's a walmart, a kmart, a few grocery stores, a mall towards chambersburg.

Shippensburg has little of any violent crime. Earlier this year there was a shooting right outside of town (can't remember if the guy died or not) but it was domestic related. Every once in a while I hear about a rash of burglaries or something, but it's almost always college students that are targeted (typical college town stuff).

Default From someone who has LIVED here for 2 years

Hi!
I dont know where the other posts live, but I live RIGHT SMACK DAB in the middle of the area, directly off campus, within walking distance of the university, and the place is LOUD AS (insert expletive here) during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Do NOT live on High Street or apt complexes on Britton Rd. or anywhere else close to those areas; the place is contstantly riddled with police, 4 times of which I have called myself personally in regards to noise complaints because of off campus students who dont understand or respect a person's privacy or "quiet enjoyment".
Unfortunately they are kids/teens, most of them, with little sense of control. You will see beer bottles and beer cups all over lawns, and you will never cease to hear the roar or see the light of a police officer's car due to drug busts, overdoses, suicides, noise pollution and the like.
Fortunately there seems to be little incidence of murder, at least.
If you want to live in Shippensburg, go towards the middle of town, away from the university; I made the mistake of trusting my second landlord who promised "my side of the building would be quiet" yeah right! Cheap building, thin walls, and noisy kids make for a recipe of (insert second expletive).
I wouldnt live here if I didnt need 5 more classes to graduate, and if the gas werent so "darned" expensive and my car worked better! Hence the need to be in walking distance of classes. Also university parking is EXPENSIVE.
The university itself is nice and peaceful; their police keep track of things fairly well ---though the incidence of alchohol and drugs on campus needs stricter reigns -- these kids are too young to handle that stuff to begin with. When they try to bolt down on it, everyone revolts... cant win for losing I guess...some people dont know what they need, and others have to make the choices for them but ALAS thats a sticky one too. It's hard being in the middle of too many people who haven't grown up yet.
Anyway-- I've ranted on as long as I can I guess.
Moral of my story...maybe they should cage off this section for "animals" only and let the quiet folk go somewhere else
I myself plan to RUN not WALK when I get my BA. degree! (maybe I will opt for a nice quiet online MFA Program from a nice quiet little beach house with my own private beach and
my own 10 foot high heavily guarded gates around my sound proof home!
Signed,
Tired of the ruckuss

I've heard that the staff in the school district in general do not like the classroom management issues and think they are a bit for a small town, but still tend to be a very safe place overall.

There's also one Chinese place there with hibachi!!
