I have a NYC License and my car is registered there as well. I however work in Pennsylvania. I travel back and forth between the two states quite frequently. I spend around 10 days/month in NY and the rest in PA. I have a rental place in PA as well. I am wondering if I can get my car insured in PA. Is it possible if I can get my car insured in PA and still keep my NY license? I may have to get my car registered in PA which I don’t have a problem with.
I recently got my NY license renewed and don’t feel like spending more money on getting PA license. Also, I would like to keep NY license.

Thanks

Doubt if your insurance company would go for it, even if you're maintaining residences in both states. It's the insurance company's call, not either state's BMV's call.

I believe so. Call your carrier and tell them your thinking of making your primary residence in PA (since it is because you spend 2/3rd of your time here). Then explain your commute for work (I don't know if that's to ny) and ask for the pricing.

You should save money, if you are paying by rates for a pa commute. I don't think the insurer cares which state issued your license. Why do you want to keep an ny license anyway?

This should also be the case for your taxes.

^ If this be the case, then will I have to register my car in PA as well?
making sure because I want to do everything by the book and law

My insurance company (Erie Insurance Exchange) didn't care that my car was registered in Ohio, or that I had an Ohio license.

It did care that I was living primarily in Pennsylvania, and forced me to change policies.

The answer to your question is going to have to come from your insurance company.

I don't know, but suggest you call your insurance company and ask. If you have a local office to call, that's probably better.

My insurance company never even asked me if/ where my car was registered. Other than annual inspections, what's the downside if you do have to register your car in PA?

I believe the answer is no.

If you want to take advantage of the fact that insurance rates are lower in PA, then you must register your car in PA.
