Please tell me about Uniontown (Greensburg, Nemacolin: real estate, credit, unemployment)

I recently moved to Morgantown WV and I start a new job in Uniontown soon. I've olny been their for the interview. Wow, real estate in the area is very affordable. Why? Whats Uniontown really like?

Uniontown resides in Fayette County, which is the second poorest county in PA. Joe Hardy, the billionaire owner of 84 Lumber has poured millions of dollars into the renovation of the town, but the general area is very redneckish and unemployment is high.

I have lived in Uniontown my whole life. If you are just working here then that's fine but I would not relocate here. It feels like a black hole. Joe Hardy did not dump money into the town he wrote some grants. The man does not deserve the credit.
There is no culture in the area. The businesses that are being brought in is minimum wage. There is no growth or development occurring.

I'd stay in Morgantown if I were you. More businesses,cultural areas,less poverty,and not as depressing.

He could have built Nemacolin Woods anywhere else, but he built it near Uniontown. He's done alot more than just write a few grants.

Ah yes... Uniontown.
Wasted 7 years of my life in that hole. Very depressed and poor county. Racist to the degree that in the late 70's the KKK would recruit new members (in full garb) on street corners! Don't know if it's changed, but somehow I doubt it. If God was gonna give Pennsylvania an enema, that's where he would put the nozzle.
Travel 40 minutes north on RT 119 into the Greensburg area. A bit more urban, but much, much nicer.

The fact that you would trash Uniontown, but suggest Greensburg is hilarious. I mean, you can walk through greensburg and uniontown and they are virtually identical. They are only 20 mins apart, if even that. I think you have a lot of problems in your life that you need sorted out. If your response was supposed to be funny, you failed.

What is wrong with his description? I wasn't living down here at the time to know if the KKK story is true, but most of what he said is spot on. Fayette County is definitely the second most poor county in the commonwealth. It's full of nothing but trash.

Greensburg is much nicer, especially near the Pitt campus.

My problem was specific to his idiotic comments about racism and KKK members recruiting people on street corners back in the 70s. It's just not true. And who the hell are you to call people nothing but trash? What have you done with your life that is so great?
