Looks like you know everything about PA....Hi We are moving to Cranesville,PA from CA. What is like in that area? Is it good and safe area to raise my kids? Also with job opportunities, weather, recreational, like malls, groceries and housing....Can you tell me more about this area and the surroundings, please! Thanks

The bigger towns like Reading and Norristown are very old and dense but they are not the norm. You should love this general area of SE Pa.

I would recommend looking around the area south southeast of Pottstown. It may make for a slightly longer commute to Reading than Philly but its an area that real estate will hold its value and then some. It's the freshest
area of metro Philly with everything being first class. The northern side of Pottstown is still fairly undeveloped.

My personal favorite areas:

Pickering Valley/Charlestown/Phoenixville/Great Valley/King of Prussia
(Very pastural area of rolling hills and valleys.)

Chester Springs/Exton/Downingtown are a bit further south, more modern more of a buzz. Growing area.

Skippack/Collegeville/Trappe.

Gweynd Valley/Ambler/

Good luck I would take a ride from Exton up Route 100 to Pottstown and see how you like it. The area east of RT 100( Pickering valley Valley Forge etc)
is spectacular.

The BEST place to live around here would probably be West Virginia. Every town I've been to in PA is turning into an armpit. I've lived in PA my whole life (56 years) and it's going downhill fast.

Nah, I don't buy it. Pennsylvania's not on an upswing. That doesn't mean it's on a downswing either though. Any which way you slice it, Pennsylvania pretty much has maintained itself right where it's been at..forever. This state is a place to live and work. It's scenic beauty is moderate, it's climate is moderate, it's livability is moderate. I would neither use the word downswing, nor upswing to describe this state..ever. There's really nothing that special about it, but in the same sense it doesn't suck completely. It's benign.

Default How about Pipersville?

My husband is currently looking at a home he saw in Pipersville. We are relocating from NW Ohio very soon. Any info would be appreciated.

Jump in a RV and take a ride across country and get back to me on your assessment of Pennsylvania. Ive made the trip many times and as a whole Pennsylvania is probably the 2nd or 3rd most beautiful state in the country behind Colorado- NY- . Long haultruckers constantly rank Pennsylvania as the most scenic state in the country. We don't have the Pikes Peaks or Yosemite or Yellowstone but we have a pretty impressive landscape from the Delaware river to Ohio border.

Yes the economy could be more dynamic but you can't call Pa.s natural landscape moderate compared to the rest of the usa.You want a moderate landscape drive 16 hours through Ohio-Ind-Ill-Mo. etc.

You should really consider moving, and I mean that postively. Why live in a place you hate, and spend your life complaining about where you live online? You could also try to find things you like to do also. I lived in Philly and hated it when I first moved there. After 3 months I found all sorts of things I loved doing there, and ended up loving it before moving. Unfortunatley, I was doing what I first suggested there when I hated it, and was looking for a job. I got an offer and left when I started to love it. Point of this long and horribly written post: Take time to look at the positives of things instead of the negatives. Maybe you will have a better look on things.

In my opinion, Doylestown, Skippack or Collegeville, PA are the best....
New Hope and Lambertville are also really great....

Tinicum Twp. is also awesome, along with Upper Black Eddy...Franconia...and Ferndale....

I think Chester is pretty riddled with crime, but I could be wrong...remember, the closer to a city you get, the more crime....and Philadelphia is really bad at night....

but it certainly has some wonderful arts and entertainment going on...

great place to go during the day....love the arts and the Reading Terminal...

Pipersville is great...a little out, country and quiet...if you live in town, they can be so noisy...loud music, people yelling and screaming...and they're not all kids....I would rather live in a small town somewhere...but then I was raised a farm girl? I hate traffic and people who drive with their radios so loud you can hear them 5 miles away...and people who drive while talking on cell phones...

give me the old fashioned wooden floor board mom and pop floor board store, in some town in upstate PA or West Virginia...where you have to drive 20 minutes to the nearest town or neighbor...yanno? I hate convenience...and grid locked traffic and well, you get my drife...so yeah...Pipersville, is great...LOL...sorry, I got carried away here....
