The Wallingford/Swarthmore area is really lovely. It has the small town feel, but is only 25 minutes or so from Philly. The school district is excellent. I grew up there, and it has good people -not the snobbery you find in some areas of Chester county. The downside is the high taxes.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN HAS TO BE THE WORST PLACE TO LIVE. I DO NOT LIVE THERE BUT I VISIT FREQUENTYLY. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT Schuylkill Haven police HAS PULLED ME OVER 4 TIMES (IN 4 DIFFERENT VEHICLES) FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. HAS STATED THAT THE SHPD ARE PULLING AS MANY PEOPLE OVER AS POSSIBLE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR A NEW POLICE STATION. DRIVES A POLICE FORD SUV WHICH HAS HAD A BROKEN TAIL LIGHT FOR MONTHS. HE IS A WASTE OF A POLICE OFFICER. WE NEED TO STOP THE CORRUPTION.

Reading, PA is one of the worst cities in the U.S. for crime not just in PA.
Avoid Reading at all costs.

The city that is. The surrounding areas (wyomissing, shillington, etc) are fairly safe when you cross the river.

Going mainly by where I've lived in the past......
Worst-Bradford (sorry to anybody who likes it there). Spent four plus years there for college and it's just too depressed for me. Bad economy/job range and people seem to be angry/moody/depressed way too much. Not much to do in that area although I lived there 1991-1996.
Best-Pleasant Gap. I really enjoyed living there. Felt very safe and only five minutes away from State College which I loved. I also enjoy living in Selingrove for the most part. I would probably say Pittsburgh if I lived there. Have always enjoyed visiting there and seems like one of the better places to live in PA.

Hi: I've visited the Allentown area recently and like some of it. Can someone tell me where are the worst neighborhoods in Allentown. I noticed that the larger, older homes are in areas that don't look too good. Can anyone tell me anything about Madison, Linden and Allen Streets. I finally decided that I'm staying in PA and would like to stay in the Allentown area (or a nice town between Allentown and NJ. I saw some areas in Whitehall township. Lovely, but the homes I could afford were tiny. Any suggestions? Thank you!
