Default Place with history, but tragic

For those thinking of relocating to PA, esp. central towards northeast, ever hear of Centralia? A village of barely 1,000 that is literally burning underground since 1962. Or the little hamlet down the way, Byrnesville. Both places don't exist any longer, except in memory. It is near Shamokin/Mount Carmel/Ashland. There are a couple of books written about it, very tragic, what those people went through for years and years. If visiting, or moving here, I suggest checking it out.

Snow never accumulates over Centralia - it melts before it has a chance.

Actually, I believe Centralia's lastest population was 14, and it's likely even less now. These were all just a handful of elderly people who want to die of old age in their old homesteads, and the town should be FULLY abandoned in the next ten years. Centralia used to have over 4,000 residents, so this is quite an unusual place!

I think it's 12 now, including the former mayor who's, as you said, in his 80's and elderly. But believe it or not, there is actually a guy my age. He lives in his Grandad's house that the Grandad built; he loves it there. "we now return control of your television to you............"
