Default Lancaster County- Best area to raise a family?

In everybdy opinion whats the safest best area to raise a family in Lancaster County? We heard new-comers are not warmly welcomed, but oh well, thats life. But overall what areas ( school districts ) would you recommend for a home in the 200-270,000 range? We are hoping to find a low crime area, far enough away from where any gang problems or high crime areas are, and areas that show a strong future.

Also how is the current job growth in Lancaster County? I'm hearing that many of the larger companies are laying off such as Hershey, Armstrong and a few others due to shipping their work out of the U.S.

Thanks

Blue Ball has some new homes going up. I can't recall the exact name of the development but it has a main line/ philly sound to it. Devonshire maybe? I think they start at about 250k. I'm sure other homes go for less or more depending on size and acreage. Unemployment in Lancaster county is about 4%. No gangs are outside of Lancaster the city as far as I know. Crime is also low outside of the city. When locals say "Lancaster is getting bad", they mean Lancaster the city, not Lancaster the county, 9 times out of 10. In Berks, Reading is as bad or worse, but crime drops off dramatically outside the city.

Not necessarily. Columbia is actually worse than Lancaster City. Even Lititz has had significant drug activity, and more recently racial incidents. And all of the multiple murders in Lancaster County over the last several years have been outside Lancaster City.

Having said that, Lancaster has a much lower crime rate than either Harrisburg or Reading.

Even in the city the crime is localized primarily to the areas southeast of King St.
