There isn't really all that much here other than the civil war... lol. Other than that, it's mostly nature oriented stuff (parks, hiking, etc)

There is outlet shopping and a brand new movie theater with some chain restaurants around it.

No Civil War?
Ha Ha Ha... your kidding right? The "official" battlefield is in, around, and surrounds the city. There are thousands of tourists all year round, especially in the summer. Reenactors walking around in period dress. The CW is the main industry of the town... inescapable.
Now what is there to do outside on the CW? There are the outlets... there is the Majestic theater. There is the Harley Dealer and the York factory... There are a couple of pretty good restaurants. There is Ski Liberty 8 miles away. There are a lot of golf courses. There are B'more and DC within a couple hours drive. There are the state parks and lakes...
As to competition for cable, phone service, etc... This is Adams county Pennsyltucky Things take a long time to change here... There is a grand total of 1 choice of cable company. That being Comcast cable. There is one choice of local phone company, that being EMBARQ, there is one choice of electric company, that being Adams Electric Coop. Cell phone service is sketchy depending on where you are. I personally don't live in Gettysburg (about 8 miles out) and get cell access in my office but not in my living room. Between Fairfield and Gettysburg... forget cell service doesn't exist yet.

2 million tourists a year. But yeah, there really isnt too much to do in gettysburg itself other than 'outlet' which is really a fancy strip mall, movie theaters, and a theater. Other than that, you have to drive about 30 minutes or more to go anywhere with anything to do, be it shopping, night life, or winter sports.
Oh, gettysburg just got a skate park...

Yup. Drove 40 minutes round trip to get some McDonalds this evening. Still like it here though... except for the weather this time of year, which still isn't as bad as further north...

Even at Christmas time, Civil War history permeates the town of Gettysburg, Adams County.
