Hi! New here, just moved from Texas a few months ago. My mother is visiting next week and she really wants to go to an "Amish store" while she's here. I know I've seen a ton of Amish on the road in Punx when I've visited for horse clinics. Are there stores offering goods in the area? Not just furniture, but blankets and home goods type stuff, too. I live in the Latrobe area, so anywhere within a couple hours drive would work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unless one has opened recently there's really no "Amish" store in the area. You may see some stores advertising things Amish like furniture or preserves but the people running it won't be Amish.

Those in that area tend to be farmers or carpenters, not retailers.

Beware of the scams. There are so many amish shops and businesses not owned by the Amish or complete tourist traps.

To find a real store you will have to drive around or hear about them word of mouth. Most of the time products or services are sold by individuals from their farm and not in traditional stores. The Amish don't have "town centers".

I am not sure how far away you are but there is a touristy Amish town, Smicksburg, in Indiana county. I have never been there but have heard of it.

The closest thing you will find to a real Amish store is in Smicksburg. See Smicksburg Home It is not far from Punxsy. On the way to Punxsy, turn left on Route 85 and then right on Route 954.

The only other suggestion I have is the village of Volant near New Wilmington, PA. There are more Amish in this area, but Volant is more of an arts and crafts place. See Volant Village Shops

Volant. It has gone downhill. Ages ago, many of the merchants were selling their homemade products. The stores contain overpriced gift and home items that can be found cheaper elsewhere. Same goes with the Outlet Center. The same as mall stores and no real savings unless you visit during an offseason sale.

I guess it is fun to walk around but the same items or ones of better quality can be found online.

nothing to contribute but please have your mother respect the Amish preference to not be photographed.

One more!
Just south of Punxsy on route 36 is Yoder's Gift shop / store. It will be on your left, just a few miles outside of Punxsutawney proper. Nice folks there.
