I was first looking into the harrisburg area but it seems like the crime rate is extremely high. I have read on a couple of posts that Hershey/Hummelstown area is a good place to live and possibly start a family. If there are any other recommendations for a nice quiet neighborhood around the harrisburg area that would be greatly appreciated.

The vast majority of the hispanic population in the Harrisburg area lives within the city itself, mostly in the Allison Hill area and nearby neighborhoods. This is also the most dangerous neighborhood in the city, but the hispanic areas are probably the safest.
Hershey/Hummelstown is a nice area. Hershey is pretty diverse but also has a high cost of living. Hummelstown is not as diverse but cheaper to live. Both have good schools. Hershey will probably be more welcoming to outsiders with all the immigration from the U.S. and even outside the U.S. that it is seeing.
The Lancaster area is known for its large hispanic population, the Harrisburg area on the other hand has only recently begun to see a hispanic community of any significance.
