So why has everyone pretended not to read what I have written?
Why is Heroin Illegal? Cocaine? Crack? PCP? Pot? Why aren't you defending these substances too? How about underage drinking? Hell, it's legal in France and other countries, why are the Feds so "uptight" here?! Should our Government be "small" and allow all of these as well? After all. doesn't everyone have the right to to use their drugs? While we're at it, what about speed limits? You know, I think the Govt. has a lot of NERVE telling me that I cannot drive 120 MPH. If the other drivers don't like it, THEY DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE! They can walk, or fly, or even take public transportation. For that matter, they can STAY HOME. They can find work where they don't have to drive the roads that I drive. My car will easily do 130, maybe 140. Why don't I have the right, the FREEDOM to drive at that speed without fear of reprisal? I'm sorry, your reasoning is fallacious. Consider this: The average person does not know how dangerous smoking is. Despite the Attorney General warning people for nearly 50 years, the cigarette companies have done their best to brainwash the public in order to continue to peddle their wares. Other types of drug dealers are prosecuted for this. Why are the Cigarette companies permitted to sell their deadly product? Fortunately, the tide is turning despite what you try to convince yourselves and others. The huge settlements awarded recently are the beginning of the end. You may whine, yell, banter, complain, and attempt to convince others that it is not true, but cigarettes will soon be gone, the same way that Dexadrine in diet pills, cocaine in soda, and unregulated use of Lysergic Diethylamide are now illegal. Perhaps you are old enough that you will not see it, but I predict that within 20 years tobacco sales in the United states will be illegal. And it will be long overdue, in my opinion. You may think, what is so bad about cigarettes? After all, tobacco has been smoked for hundreds of years - why and how can they ban plain-old simple tobacco? Well here's some information for smokers to consider; You, and anyone in the general vicinity of you smokers may be ingesting ANY of the following substances that are legally permitted to be added to cigarettes, and, when burned, they produce over 4000 (FOUR THOUSAND!) toxins. If we don't have big brother, than we have anarchy.
Let's say we have no govt. OK, now if I don't like your smoke, and I have more power than you, you are NOT going to not smoke. Simple as that. If I’m packing and your not, you are going to have to put out your cigarette. If we are both packing, than we have a shoot out. This is ANARCHY. There are more non smokers than smokers. Why, because it's healthier. Same with drugs by the way. Smokers are so addicted to nicotine, and this drug has such a powerful affect over them, that they loose all consideration for their fellow man. There are people arguing here for the right to put smoke into someone else’s lungs. Sanity!!!  Smoking is a KILLER, AND SO IS SeCoNd HAD SMOKE. FACT!!! NO ARGUMENT HERE OR ANYWHERE.  The people (govt) are correct in making a public choice not to smoke.  The argument about co2 from autos is ludicrous. Why don’t we just shut down the economy also? Let’s go back to cleaning up hoarse CRAP from the streets. While you’re at it, can I borrow your cave girl; mine is a little worn out. Does big brother do some good? YES, he keeps me from ordering you to put out your cigarette. They will never ban it, because they won't have to. The public will be smoke free by choice. The article from Reuters was very good. That guy needs a little ANARCHY. Between 1920-60, Phillip Morris used board certified Doctors and Surgeons, in full page advertisements in Life magazine to promote cigarette smoking. Wag the dog. We were educated to smoke. Is Big Brother complicit in this crime?

There was a similar thread on the Inidana forum. People kept trying to hijack that forum as well by talking about car exhaust, obesity, etc. This is supposed to be a forum about a statewide smoking ban in Pennsylvania.

That blather may be all well and good in print, but I see this from a VERY different perspective after my LIFELONG NON-SMOKING cousin who worked in a white-collar office surrounded by cigarette smokers died at age 54 from lung cancer (a smoker's disease. ) Have you ever had the experience of watching a relative, or even a close friend, waste away in ever increasing pain from lung cancer? Have you ever had the experience of helping to clean your father after he soiled his diapers because it hurt him to much to try to stand up? How about watching your cousin's children trying to be strong in front of him, and falling to pieces when he could not see or hear them because it hurt them so much to watch their father waste away? Nobody will ever be able to convince me that the second-hand smoke he was surrounded by and immersed within did not cause his lung cancer. Let me ask you this - Have you ever known someone who died of lung cancer that did not smoke? Personal experience please, not "I read it on a web site" or "I heard from a friend that his second nephew's third baby-sitter's boyfriend did." I think it is apropos that you are attempting to "blow smoke" to cloud the issue. If the smoke can deposit particles upon my clothing (verifiable by the cigarette smell I carry home after walking through an area with smokers,) how could any reasonably intelligent person dispute that inhaling the same fumes will deposit at least an equal amount of particles inside warm moist internal organs with semi-permeable membranes? Would you like me to post some information concerning gas exchange and differential pressures in the lungs? Maybe some absorption rates for the various toxins that result from burning the aforementioned substances and chemical compounds? Stop being an Ostrich! Pull your head out of the ground, wake up and smell the cancer!

I knew that article would ruffle some feathers but that wasn't the intent.
I don't know of one person who ever died from or even had lung cancer. Several years ago at my former place of employment, I went outside at break because it was a very nice day. A group of smokers were discussing a rash of cancer(but no lung), heart attacks and other diseases sweeping the employees. They realized that not one of those people ever smoked a day in their lives. As I listened to their discussion, they talked about their own state of health. Even though many were in their late 50s and early 60s, they had no health issues. It seems the smokers were some of the healthier people in the facility. There are several factors that can cause lung cancer, Radon is one and the government's above ground testing of nuclear weapons also contributed. The isotopes spread across the U.S. I'm not advocating smoking. It does stink and makes a mess but I believe if people want to smoke, that's their decision and I'm not going to be in their face about it. I don't respect anyone any less if they do smoke. I'm not going to get paranoid about it. With all the brainwashing, smoking will eventually cease to exist.
