I was born in coudersport and left as soon as I could, there is no work there, no future there, and come on all you local people, you know that most of the people in that town do not take well to other races! I think its horrible, and wouldnt take my kids there.
I dont even go to visit anymore..and now that the Regis family is gone, or almost gone, its a ghost town..

I hate McKean Potter,Elk,Cameron Counties. They are all backward here. I was born in this area and currently live here. But I do not like the area . Not enough job. The jobs that are out there are not very good paying $1-2 above min wage which is $7.15 a hr in Pennsylvania. There are certain people in the area that do not like other races. I frankly see it as bull . If you like very very very rural areas then this is the place for you.

I spent a year in Coudersport as a teenager with cousins of mine about 15 years ago. It's a very small, white, " Mr' Rodgers Neighborhood" type of town. Everybody knows everybody there. The people I've met there were very nice, God fearing, down to Earth people. Life in Coudy revolves around hunting and fishing... Period! So I hope you're an outdoors type person. It would be an excellent town to raise your children if you have any. I wouldn't be surprised if the town never had a major crime! It's just a sleepy, family oriented town in the middle of nowhere.

Coudersport would be okay, however some of the surrounding towns and villages are a lot less friendly (ie Ulysses, Pa).

How do you know how other people feel in coudersport..I think you're speaking of your own feelings. Do not judge me or anyone else, you have no right. If you don't like it here, then it is good you left.

You guys all have problems with race, and it's annoying...we're small because we don't have big factories and businesses, it's not that we keep it small to as you say keep it "white"...you're the reason there's so many problems today. There is one race and that is human kind, quit trying to label us, judge us and start problems...Holy Cow...we're trying to get more employment here...we love this town.

Hi mama84,
I hope this post doesn't come in too late during your possible move to Potter County. My single brother moved from the Phila area to Tioga county over a year ago and he is still considered an outsider to the locals there. I think a bi racial couple is going to have a hard time being accepted, I hate to say it. Living in some parts of the country haven't changed their ways ever....sad but true.
Also check out some school websites like schoolmatters.com, greatschools.net and I recently found schooldigger.
Good luck to you and your family and pray for God's guidance.

Coudersport is a nice, safe town. I grew up there. The surrounding hills and parks are beautiful. The people are very friendly. I cannot speak for the racism levels found amongst the adults in the community, though, through elementary and high school, all kids were always treated as equals. I graduated high school with 70 or so kids in 2002, only a handful were non-white. I honestly cannot remember ANY instance involving racial differences amongst the kids.
