It's fairly tight in this region. If you can't find anything in hanover, you might wanna try new oxford or bonneville first, then try littlestown.

We used to live in Taneytown, MD and did most of our shopping in Hanover. We practically lived at the Rita's Ice store on weekend evenings in summer!

I'm visiting Hanover this summer to visit family. They are always trying to convince my wife and I to move there. Would you recommend it? What are the likes and dislikes about the town?

Really the only 3 hings I dont like about Hanover ,The first is the damned traffic and the way the streets are laid out , that town is a freakin zoo on Fri and Sat nights, especially if your trying to turn across traffic...I think its just gotten too big for its layout, and secondly the kids in the Hoopdie cars on the weekends, they are everywhere! Music Boom Boom Booming in every damned parking lot..Im really surprised the Police dont chase em out for loitering....Walmart and Sheetz Lots are bad for that one...and then there is no cab service unless you call em out of York but hey , this is Pennsy-Tuckey, Whats a Cab?
Oh if you have kids I dont think the buses run in town so they will have to walk or be driven! Pain in the hoo haa!

Other than that, you would probably never have to leave town..there a store or shop there for everyone!

Wow I just read over my post and realized how nice it sounded coming from a PA HATER!
Moving to Florida in JUNE and will never breathe another breath of PA air!

Guess its all in what ya like though! And just in case I have a friend who will be selling their house in Hanover this summer to move to Florida also! If you are interested email me at keno.kween@yahoo.com and maybe you can touch base with her if you are serious!

Traffic compared to any area of comparative size, traffic is average. There aren't many accidents (due to the lack of any limited access highways in hanover) to back up traffic. The streets are partially a grid, but it's an old town so it's not a perfect block system. Not only that, but it was multiple towns that have merged together, adding to the complexity.

Friday and saturday nights are racing on eisenhower (usually after 9, on a tiny bit between 8 and 9). If it's really that much of a concern, just avoid it. I've never felt unsafe, irritated, but not unsafe. Everywhere has the 'damn hooligans' driving around with loud stereos. Hanover isn't going to defy that any time soon.

Traffic conditions nor population size warrant the need for taxi's (not enough people to be profitable). There are buses (rabbit transit), but not many stops due to the lack of population to warrant it unless you feel like paying for empty buses.

There are enough stores for pretty much anything. The only things that aren't in hanover are

1) A Best Buy or equivalent chain
2) Luxury stores

I have lived in Hanover for almost 11yrs. I live outside of town west of McSherrystown. It has changed a good bit in the 11yrs I've been here.More houses more people bring moretraffic, more shopping most likely coming soon. As for the Eisenhower Ext. that will be many more years down the road. between the Local township supervisors and Penn Dot trying to find where funding will come from it will be awhile.
Hanover in general is a nice town, growing faster then I'd like (I grew up in the suburbs of Wash DC) .So I will probabily stay till my son is out of High School then move to a more rural area. ie: 20+ acres with a cabin and pond in the middle

So you'll just continue the cycle of people moving away from a suburban area to a rural place till it becomes suburban, and then move to a new rural place till that becomes suburban, etc.

Great.

I was curious about Hanover

1) Is this rural or suburban?
-Is it undergoing intensive developement?
-If suburban...where do the people commute?

2) From what I have heard it appears most see this as a rural county more close to Baltimore.
-If so...why...since it is near Philly which is a large market and in the state?
-How come Philly's suburbs don't extend this far for such a large market?

3) What is the area's general allegiance to?
-Is it to Philly, Pittsburgh, and PA or to Baltimore or both?

4) What TV stations do you get?
-Why do you get FSN PIT since PIT is really far?

5) What sports teams do people root?

Thanks.

Hello Bluecountry

I live in Hanover (Adams county side)
I would consider it mostly rural , but it has bee having a growth spurt for years now
As for the closeness to Baltimore or Philly, From Hanover to U of Md. med center is 52 miles but to Childrens Hosp in Philly is 123 miles . So Philly is a good bit further away.
As for TV network is a mix of Harrisburg and Baltimore with cable. But with direct TV I get Harrisburg network only.
As for teams most of my neighbors are Balt. Ravens fans, there are alot of Philly fans too. And some Stealer fans too (I'm a Green Bay fan )
