I just bought a used car from a car dealership and it has tinted windows. It was already inspected and received the PA Inspection sticker. But the local police department pulled me over and gave me a citation. The police claim that the tint is too dark and to have it removed. How could it pass an annual PA Inspection? I don't see how a dealership can sell a car knowing that the tinted windows are illegal.

I would suggest going back to the dealership with the ticket and see what they say. I hate those dark tinted windows. How can a police officer see in?

They have these guys at dealership inspect it illegally. I would call the place and discuss them paying for it.If not report them to BBB, consumer report or sound off.

If you have an suv the backseat and rear windows can be tinted(most manufacturers tint the back and rear windows but the driver side windows need to allow 70% of sunlight in PA. Most likely whoever previously had the vehicle matched up the driver side windows with the rest of the vehicle. Its illegal and dont think you will have much luck fighting the tix. Dont think you will get anywhere with inspection either. Its your issue not the dealer's or the garage's .

You caught a bad break must have caught the cop on a bad day. It seems like today 1/2 the cars on the road have tinted windows all way around.

You can understand the concern of police but tinted windows do also have alot of benefits including blocking harmful uva rays, protecting the interior of car and its great to prevent theft.

In fact today I saw a heavily tinted Jeep pulled over today on 95 by State Cops .First thought due to weather and slow conditions was they probably got pulled over for the Tinted windows. They were really dark like 5% light.

Doubt you will get anywhere there. The responsibility is with the owner of the car not the mechanic.

Id probably chalk it up to experience.Pay the citation and get the tint removed which will probably cost you a $100 bucks or so to get it removed professionally.

The factory tint in the back windows on most new SUVS is like 18%-22% tint(allows 18 % light in). Thats legal. The problem is that many people like to get the front 2 windows matched up to give it an even look. Thats where you run into problems as PA law wants 70% light coming thru in the front windows for police safety.

I guess there is no harm in the OP going to the dealer and raising a fuss and see if that can get them anywhere.

Yeah I understand the evenness of color but honestly isn't that a pain to drive at night? Lol

The dealership sold him an illegal car. The OP has every right to demand and expect the dealership to make it right. The dealership should reimburse the OP for the fine and remove the tinting. When someone purchases a car they have every right to get a legal car.

If the dealer does not want to make it right the OP should file a complaint with the BBB and post reviews of the dealer on-line.
