Default Non-Student Rentals in Indiana, Pa.

I am considering accepting a job offer at IUP and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where grown ups live? I'd like to rent for at least a year to get my bearings before buying, but want to avoid student housing. Are there rentals in Indiana? Do people live in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh and drive to Indiana for work? I don't mind longish commutes since I've lived in the suburbs of LA, NY and Boston, but if there are places in Indiana to live -- maybe around a golf course? -- I'd probably prefer that. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

The indiana gazette is a good place to check. Indiana Gazette Online - Home. go to the classifieds section and looking for the real estate section and you can search.
a place a lot of adults who rent live is the westgate terrace apartment group, which ranges from about $550 - 800 per month. their website is The Apartment Gallery. then just scroll through to the indiana, pa apartments. there are a few golf courses around indiana. the vfw country club course is only a mile or 2 from the westgate apartments. there are people who live in areas around plum/monroeville/holiday park that commute on route 286 to indiana, but there are a lot of apartments around indiana, so i dont see why you would want to commute.

Default Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I'm coming out there next week for a visit and you've given me some places to start. I'll also be talking to IUP admin to see where their professors and exec staff tend to live, as well as where upscale areas tend to be, but it's nice to have a starting point before arriving. We're "big city folks" who are used to living close to the ocean, so living in Indiana might be a bit of a culture shock, but if things work out we're looking forward to it as a new adventure.

Since you're used to commuting some of the areas outside of Indiana that you might want to consider would be Johnstown, Blairsville and Homer City.
