local takes 2.1% you may not round the numbers.

there is a $10 privilidge to work tax every year.

this area has an occupational tax. ranges $200- 1400 a year- based on your job title.

there is a 10$ per capita tax 2 x a year.

before you give up on PA....
there is no tax on food or clothes. 6% exept philly and pitt where it is 7%

license plates are $36 a year- regardless of how fancy your car is.

Where can I look to see what my occupational tax range would be. I am presently living in Tenn. but grew up in the Myrtle Beach area of SC. I have never heard of a priviliage to work tax or occupational tax. Also the per capita tax....I may have to look at New York state or is it the same a Pa.

Depending on the school district and county in which you reside, the method of calculating the taxes vary.

In the late '90s, the voters were given the option to keep the old system or vote on Act 50 which taxes an individual on a percentage of their income and not their job title.

The old occupational assessment tax system was absolutely unfair.

Two taxpayers could hold the same job title and make substantially different incomes but pay the same amount.

For instance, a truck drive earning $20K a year would pay the same as one making $75K a year. The same unfairness applied to every job title.

When the old system was established in the the early 1900s, certain professionals' assessments were lower than some tradesman because at the time the professionals performed many of their services for charity. Over the years that changed tremendously. In some instances the high income professionals were paying less than a factory worker earning $20K a year.

With Act 50, my taxes were lowered. Act 50 created a system which is much more fair. It's based on a percentage and by law, the percentage has a ceiling. I'm not sure, but I thinks its about 2%.

Thanks for the information. New Jersey does not have that law does it. I have family there and they have never mentioned it to me. I am trying to get closer to my daughter and her family with lives in Fair Lawn, NJ. I can not afford to live there because of the high taxes. So, I am looking to Pa. and NY state for a affordable area to live. I love the idea of Pa. but not sure with of the two states will be the most affordable. Don't forget that I will also want a safe area.....again I think Pa. win again.......
Thanks again If anyone has any information about small towns in Pa....about the size of Bangor or Pen Argyl please send me feed back about the areas.
