Although no place is perfect and Armpit is a little harsh the area is dead. Once Coal died in the 50's and 60's and the area has gone down hill ever since. If you look around when coming up I-81 you will see what they are talking about. Good jobs are not in abundance.
I lived there from 1970 til 1995 and I visit at least once a year. Dreading the visit in July this year.

welcome to NEPA
Sorry to see all those negative threads. We have many people who do the commute thing by bus from Hawley or Mount Pocono or drive 84 to NJ. Once you live here, you will never want to return...I've been here for close to 20 years! Let us hope our new neighbors keep it the way we want to see the woods, full of animals and not garbage!

Pocono's
I have lived in NEPA my entire life. I have never been to Honesdale and never really hear about that town much, but I would strongly suggest the Pocono's. It is absolutely gorgeous there, and easier commute to NYC. The Pocono's have a large influx of people from NYC\Jersey.
Just be prepared that NEPA life is not the same. It can tend to be a bit boring, especially compaired with city life.

AS far as Hawley goes, just do a peoples profile and find out what kind of people live there. AS mmikulak has said people there are closeminded. Alot of them are and stuck in a time warp. There is little or no opurtunity there. Many people with physchological problems from Hawley. I would look in the poconos. Bucks county PA is also nice and more affluent.

I don't understand, why is PA becoming a hotspot for NYC, NJ, and LI commuters?
I always felt that NJ, NY state, LI, and CT were commuter spots, that western NJ was rural as was NE PA outside the PHI metro area in the central.
Why is it NEPA is having an onslaught of development, and it is detroying the rural beauty?
Are we going to have no more green left in the greater NYC area, and let me ask does NEPA even get NYC stations, papers, I would find it hard to believe people would live in NEPA commute to NYC and not be in touch with the local event due to news stations.
Also do you think the onslaught of people coming to NEPA is going to effect the balance of PA's population and favorings?
With all these NY people coming wouldn't NEPA if not PA become more pro NY in terms of stations and fans of sports teams?
As a NY fan I am wondering if in years to come we can count on NEPA for support much like we do Southern CT.
