Last year I suppose we got off easy. I can't say I'm thrilled about a monster season, but am trying to get prepared. Has anyone heard any different? Please?

Don't they say it's going to be bitterly cold every year?

There have been a few years where the prediction was for a mild winter. For this one they're saying lots of snow and after the new year, very cold temps.

I've been hearing this for months. What's the worst that can happen? Are we going to loose our feet and have to eat our children? Oh, I can't do that... they moved out.

I think we'll survive. Unlike a Florida hurricane, our houses are still standing after a snowfall. Then it melts.

The feds predict a severe hurricane season every year and it almost never happens. I don't give the Farmer's Almanac much credence although I give the National Hurricane Service even less and the National Weather Service about the same. They all throw darts at a dart board basically.

We're fairly prepared. The funny thing is, we finally got a generator - not because of the winter power outages, but because of the summer rains bringing down trees on our power lines. One summer we had three trees come down across the driveway, and twice there were live wires, so now we've cut a trail through to the tree farm above us.

Some canned and dry goods, batteries, an extra propane tank for the grill... I think we'll be okay. Now whether I'll be happy about it or not is another matter!

Accuweather said today that this Nov and Dec will be more normal this year and much colder than last year. The jet stream is supposed to dominate and block out warm air from the south.

After a few polar vortex winters, last year with El Nino was very warm. We had no snow accumulation to speak of here. So hopefully this year the snow and cold will return. I have no problem with winter, but it needs to be a full on winter.

I heard that when there's a bumper crop of acorns that always means lots of cold and lots of snow. This year we have tons of acorns on the driveway. My poor brand new car is dented in dozens of places. Snow is pretty if you don't have to drive in it.

The last prediction I heard was:
Colder than normal December
Average January and February
Colder than normal March, stretching out winter
51 inches of snow instead of the average 39
