Ive been to alot of the places listed. The next time my son and I take an urban "man" trip I will check some of these places out.

I always loved the Kimmel Center. It was designed by Rafael Vinoly. He designed Pittsburgh's Davis L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Pittsburgh's Mellon Square was the first green roof dating back to 1955. The urban park sits atop a multi level subterranean garage. Pittsburgh has several mid century urban parklets within downtown.

Mellon Square | A Garden Plaza Located in Downtown Pittsburgh
They tried the same thing in Kansas City, Mo., in the same year with the Auditorium Plaza Garage across from the (wonderful 1934 Art Deco) Municipal Auditorium.

The garage was topped by a park that later came to be known as Barney Allis Plaza.

There was a problem, though.

The block they chose to build the garage sloped downward to the south, but the bedrock beneath it didn't. Thus, on the south side, they could only dig down two levels before hitting bedrock, and the garage was to have three levels.

As a result, the south end of the garage is level with 13th Street, with doors leading directly into it and the park elevated one level above.
