Well, in Scranton's defense a suburban organics food store was the primary launcher of an effort to ban trans-fats statewide, the city had a short-lived renegade public smoking ban that had to eventually be overturned, and some here are now leading the push to ban cell phone usage while driving, save for hands-free devices. There are very few "forward-thinkers" here, but the few that are can be rather vocal.

As someone else mentioned, your poll left out the Midwest. Actually, there should be entries for the upper and south/central midwestern areas.

For the record, I am already planning my move out of PA to the upper Midwest. Have been in central PA since 1990. It's not a good fit for me.

Increasing sprawl does not make for a culturally appealing environment. A luxury pricetag does not preclude banality. Central PA is IMO the Land Of Bland

If money and schools were no object, I'd buy a house on the coast of South Carolina or the St. Augustine, Florida area. Otherwise, I'm very happy here in central PA.

But as you get older, you may not be a fan of the oppressive hot humid summers of the south either. Notice that a lot of well-off senior citizens from NE PA go to Florida for the winter but come back to PA for summers. You definitely see an increase in Buicks with Florida plates and white-haired drivers in the summer months in NE PA.

Duly noted...actually our neighbor is one of those "wintering" down in FLA.

I just don't see how I would mind them, considering I would have the ocean breeze to keep me cool...and the view! Ahhhh....

I just love the beach so much, I would probably put up with it just so I could enjoy the daily walks on the beach in the morning (and evening!) The rest of the time I'll have my central air to keep me cool!

But this scenario is years ((and years!) away...*sigh* Who knows what I'll do! I guess I'll see if I end up "well-off" first, and then go from there!

Cathy

I only added four options as there are way too many subsections in the US and would have been too many options for the poll. I figured everything could fit into one of the four categories and could be expanded upon in the posts. Didn't want to clutter up the poll options too much but probably should have added a few more.

I would move to Canada, Arizona, California, or Nevada in that order. I'm not the hugest fan of PA although I do enjoy the outdoors and certain other things. I love Canada but it's way too cold to relocate there. I'm seriously thinking about braving the winters up there though. Colder weather is one of the reasons why I do want to move out of PA. Just like warmer weather and don't mind the heat.

I lived in Cincinnati for four months and would think about moving back there as well. Would rather go more out west but did enjoy it there.

First let me say that IMO PA is one of the nicest place to live. For the most part the people are friendly and the food is the best in the world. However as a retiree I find that living in PA is not as good financially as the southeast. PECO is one of the biggest drawbacks with $.15/khr as compared to Duke Energy at $.08/khr. Then there is the taxes which are much lower in the south.
Car insurance is about 25% cheaper. As much as I like PA I find that I need to move to the southeast.
