My wife and I lived in coastal North Carolina for 21 years. We returned to our native Pennsylvania in 2005, purchasing a farm from an Amish family in Forest County. We both are now employed in Titusville, a 24 mile drive from the farm.

There really is no room in the valley to sprawl, There are so many underused properties it would take a very long time for saturation. Currently I did not see any big box stores they would be 7 miles away in a town called Franklin.

Well Cranberry has a WalMart. Oh, the horror. But it has a Tractor Supply too so there is hope. See you in about 5 years!

I think I am going to drive up and take a look around Venango County in the next couple of months. I have looked at the pictures posted here and on county/city websites, but I want to see for myself.

Driving to Pittsburgh from Titusville I passed Oil City and Cranberry. 40 miles later I saw another Cranberry sign. That's a really big place.

Yeah a lot of people get the two mixed up.

Having been born and raised in Oil City, I can tell you that it once was a charming place. But that is not the case now. It is so economically depressed that people have not invested in the up-keep of their homes. A 'blight' condition exists and a depression looms over the town. Most educated people have left for more interesting lives.

Oil City is currently in the midst of a revitalization. There was a great article about what's going on in that small city in the PPG not too long ago, I'll see if I can find it again and post the link. Granted, it's not what it used to be, but it is in no way, shape or form a blight.

I would still like to find that article. It could be a neat town, but not blight? When we visit my in-laws, I don't see Oil City in any other way. The city looks pretty bad.
