Live in Ohio and relocating to PA in 3 yrs. cities that are 4-6 hours away from Columbus Ohio?
My family and I will be moving to PA in about 3 yrs. We are searching for cities that are no more then 6 hours away from Columbus Ohio. We have family and friends here in Columbus Ohio and we don't want to move so far away that it is taking us like 7 hours or more to travel to visit. Also my mother (she is 52) will be moving with us. She works with the elderly in their homes as an Independent Provider. So, we need to make sure where ever we move has jobs for her and everyone else. My husband is in school for automotive technology, so I am sure he won't have a hard time finding a job. I graduate with my Bachelors in Social Work next year.
We have 2 boys that are 3 and 9, so we want to find some where that has EXCELLENT public schools. As for living arrangements, for now we are looking to rent until we get on our feet.
Open to suggestions of cities to look at and any other suggestions or advice you may have.

The Harrisburg area has a growing job market and great public schools in the suburbs. Columbus is 6 hours away, I actually have family there and travel to see them a few times a year.

Try the Pittsburgh thread. While I won't disagree with the previous response, I have my doubts about getting from Harrisburg to Columbus in 6 hours or less.
We live in Erie, and I wouldn't suggest moving here hoping to find work. If you have a firm offer, thats a different matter. In the Erie area, some of the schools outside the city have very good reputations. If you would choose to go to the city schools, the Collegiate Academy has an excellent reputation.

Well, I looked it up on Mapquest, thinking the above poster was correct, and darned if it didn't say 6 hrs from Columbus to Harrisburg. You have to remember that that is driving time only. If you stop to eat, get gas, etc, it will take longer.

It only takes me nine hours to get from Scranton to Cincinnati. The 70 speed limit in West Virginia helps!

For the 11 miles that you're actually in West Virginia, for three or four of which the speed limit is 55? That's stretching, dude!

55? I did 75 most of the way out there. Thank God the PA State Police are severely understaffed!
