Did you know that Lebanon is the fastest growing city in PA? Lots of developments up in the hills south of town, as people are finding the commute to Harrisburg & Hershey & Philly suburbs easy.

There is also a nice older development up on the southern side of the mountains with reasonably priced homes just over the Lancaster line just before the Thruway entrance.

Lititz is a LONG haul from Lebanon, at least by Lancaster County commute standards. Probably 35 or 40 minutes, depending on where you live in Warwick Township. One of my children went to school with folks from Lebanon who commuted down to Linden Hall (school for girls) in Lititz - obviously it was worth the commute but they sure did grouse alot.

Lititz is a decent place. The town core is cutsey, but the shops really don't amount to much. The only natural food store in town closed down a couple years ago. Dining options are limited. The residents fended off a Wal-Mart just south of town only to get a monster shopping plaza and a new hospital no one uses.

The town is a bit whitebread - many people seem to be relocate there from more diverse areas of the county. Traffic is bad and getting worse - it can take 15 or 20 minutes to cross town in rush hour. The Warwick schools are very good and getting better - perhaps the best in Lancaster County now by some measures.

Lititz looks like paradise compared to most of what one sees driving south from Hazelton. People have money, jobs, & can aford to lead decent, normal lives. You'd probably be happy there.

No, I didn't know that Lebanon is the fastest growing city in PA. I did see a lot of new construction when we drove around the area. We haven't ventured down towards Lititz yet, but will in the near future. I would imagine we'll end up somewhere within 30 min. of Lebanon. It will all depend on the commute, real estate, and schools. But I am impressed so far, by what I've found out about the Warwick schools. Manheim seems excellent too. Does anyone have any insight into these districts?

Kay's Mom
We're thinking about moving to Stonecroft Village near Womelsdorf. I would love some information about Womelsdorf and Stonecroft. What do the locals think about the 55+ community. Does it look like it's going to be successful? I've heard the taxes are really high, but if it's a nice community we'd be willing to bite the bullet. Is there other housing in the area worth looking at? I'd appreciate any inforation.

Lititz is a borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 6 miles (approximately 10 km) north of Lancaster. It was founded by Moravians in 1756, and was named after a castle in Bohemia near the village of Kunvald where the ancient Bohemian Brethren's Church had been founded in 1457. The roots of the Moravian Brethren's Church date back to the ancient Bohemian Brethren's Church. For a century, only Moravians were permitted to live in Lititz. Until the middle of the 1800s, only members of the congregation could own houses; others were required to lease. The lease-system was abolished in 1855, just 5 years before the beginning of the Civil War. More information can be found in the book A Brief History of Lititz Pennsylvania by Mary Augusta Huevener, published in 1947.

During a part of the American Revolution, the Brethren's House, built in 1759, was used as a hospital. A number of soldiers died and were buried here. Lititz is also home to Linden Hall School, the oldest all-girls boarding school in the United States. Located adjacent to the Moravian Church on 47 acres of land, Linden Hall School was founded by the Moravians in 1746, a decade before the borough was incorporated.

In modern days, Lititz is now recognized for having the longest continuous-running celebration of Independence Day, which has been a town tradition since 1813. This celebration routinely shuts down most of the town to traffic, due to the large volume of tourists and former Lititz residents who return for the Queen of Candles pageant and the yearly fireworks gala. Lititz is also shut down for two weekends during the summer, when the Lititz Lions and Lititz Rotary Club sponsor their art show and craft show, both of which extend from the Lititz Springs Park out into Broad Street (PA-501) and Main Street (PA-772). These shows are yearly tradition in Lititz as well, though sometimes dreaded because of the traffic disruptions they spawn.

During 2006 a year long celebration was held commemorating the 250th anniversary of the naming of the town. Some of the major events included a service and commemoration ceremony in Lititz Springs Park on Sunday June 11th, the official naming ceremony on Monday June 12th, a fountain show in the park called "Symphonic Springs" during August 20th-26th, and a New Year's celebration. http://www.wainscoting.info
