Summons for jury duty, AGAIN
Back in January I got summoned for Jury Duty but because of work obligations on the date selected, I wrote a letter explaining my situation I got out of it
Today, I now get another letter, but with no instructions of writing a letter if I need to get out of it. Of course, the date they selected for me is another day where I have IMPORTANT work business as last. I am a nurse and feel my responsibilities are more with work that serving for jury duty...mind you, I did attend 3-4 years ago when summoned. Because they did not allow me to respond to be dismissed I can still write them a letter to try and get dismissed.
Do they not care what you do for a living before that ask you to attend jury duty?????
Thanks for listening.

In my county, they do not know what you do for a living when summons are sent. It is based on driver's licenses.
I am sorry that jury summons upsets so many people. I have been summoned twice, served once. It was very interesting IMO.
If you were on the "other side" would you rather have a jury of your "peers" (professional, educated, free thinking) or a group of people who had nothing better to do?
I was astounded at how many uneducated people were in our group - they did not understand basic medical terminology and they DID NOT CARE to change that. They were willing to convict on what they DID understand and it was wrong. Those of us who were in the medical field (3) were finally able to explain things enough to release an innocent man.
I want a mix of people on my jury - educated, professional, independent thinkers who will discuss my case. Unqualified people need not apply.
Nursing saves lives - been there, done that.
I have seen how jury duty can save them too.
I hope everything works out for you, maybe if you go to their office directly and explain your situation, they will reschedule your date.

Its my understanding that you get into the cycle for jury duty. Once you've been summoned, you can expect to recieve additional summons at later dates. After awhile you get back out of the cycle and go quite awhile til you get called again. I may be wrong, but this is how it was explained to me. Lots of us think we have important jobs, but we all need to perform our civic duty, convenient or not. When we no longer care, the legal system goes to hell.

I've always felt it was my civic duty to serve on a jury if I was able. You make some EXCELLENT points (in fact, I repped you). I totally agree with you...I, too, would want a jury of my peers, not a collection of people who couldn't get out of serving.
