Delta, PA (town, history, borough)

What was the criteria for naming this town Delta?

I'm going to go way out on a limb here with this one but I would imagine that Delta may have some Welsh origins. The town boasts a strong welsh heritage. When the slate quarries were at thier peak the welsh were there to mine them. If I recall accurately they mined slate in wales also. Check with the Harford Historical Society, they put out a booklet on Delta PA/Cardiff, MD
