Default Teaching in Pa

Is it difficult to secure a teaching position in the Suburbs? I heard that you have to substitute first, is that true?

Not always true, it depends on what you teach. My daughter teaches high school chemistry and general science. She had several offers for full time positions right out of college 4 years ago.
What will you teach and where do you want to locate?

Depends on what you are certified to teach. Were you originally certified to teach in PA, and have you taken and passed all of the PRAXIS exams? I was hired from out of state, with 10 years of experience and received full credit for my years of experience and Masters Degree. Some school districts are selective, others want new, inexpensive people to groom and train to "their way". Elementary, Art, PE and English are tougher to get than Special Ed., Science, Math, Tech Ed., Family/Consumer Sciences. The latter 4 are in serious demand in this area at least.
