Let's just clarify that what the OP is talking about is the culture of southwestern Pennsylvania, not western Pennsylvania as a whole. Northwestern Pennsylvania is not the same, culture or otherwise, except for a misguided penchant to root for the Steelers.

Northwestern Pennsylvania is solidly "pop", like much of the Midwest. If you think "pop" is "yinzer speak", you need to get out more.

My relatives in Allegheny County say "pop"; my relatives in Somerset County say "soda".

I used to live in the Mid -West and speak to "pop" being used there...course in the 50's "phosphates" was also used! So sometimes I say 'pop", sometimes "soda pop"!

Also a few other terms that I didn't know were Pennsylvanian til I moved here such as "you'uns"

I do. But none in Pennsylvania. Then again, there might be someone. After all, Rolling Rock is considered a gourmet craft beer by some people in Maryland.
