have you figured out where you are moving to ? what would be your top two choices . . .

My Response: I don't believe that places ( any place, wether we like the place or not ) can mess up our lives. Rather I believe it is the way we respond to the things that happen to us in any place that either messes up our lives or makes our lives better. Places are neutral. They just are whatever they are! The Pennsylvania that depresses you, is the SAME Pennsylvania that other people love.

I have lived in PA all my life... same county, actually. I have travelled the state and to other states for various lengths of time. Is PA depressing? I don't believe so. Is PA frustrating? Yes, I'll agree to frustration.

People's mindset needs updated, esp. in my area. Within a 10 mile radius you have 15 different municipalities (city, boro & twp) with almost as many school districts. Each municipality has a different set ordinances than the other. So it's very frustrating on advancing towards the future and bringing opportunity to the area when so many in such a small area are really competing instead of cooperating. So my vote goes for frustration.

I agree with Franco above who said an area is neutral and it's your response to conditions that determines whether you let it depress you or not. I don't find it depressing.. there's enough to do to keep me busy and happy I just wish the leaders in my area would wake up and move forward for everyone's benefit.

Except for some war zones and famine areas, I don't think a place can be depressing. One's life can be depressing if they don't have enough money or they are living with someone they don't love or if they hate their job, etc. But a place is what you make of it.

If you don't like something about a place and it bugs you, then you have to work to change it, move, or learn to live with it.

My husband and I moved around quite a bit our first ten years of married life and for 9 months lived in a trailer in West Virginia while he went to college and I worked. I HATED the trailer, our dog died and I got a job I didn't much like. However, I knew that we would not stay there forever and my job was temporary. We managed to find many wonderful things to like about West Virginia and look back on the trailer experience with humor.

We chose to live in Pennsylvania about 20 years ago and I love it here.

Not depressing at all. In fact going over the NY line towards Binghamton is always depressing, as it seems to be always dark and raining, cold and gloomy.
We have tons of Sun in Pa. I have lived here 13 years now.........and have loved every minute. I see no less sun or rain...then in NJ where I lived most of my life. The snow is about the same as NJ. I saw not one difference in that...however people in the highest mountain regions of say Mt. Pocono...do have more snow and about a 10 degree difference in temps of other lower lieing areas. The town of Blakeslee is .........colder and snows ,for some reason ,so much more. ( everytime our daughter came home from college that area was in the mist of a storm)
Yesterday I was swimming in 95 degrees, with a tint of a breeze......Ahhhhh
Here you get to swim while looking over beautiful fields with a mountain back drop. The boating is fantastic on Beltsville Lake.........wonderful swimming in the coves. The parks are just wonderful.....
I'd never go back to over crowded NJ...........the beauty here is to grand to leave.

I moved here from Florida not long ago. I live in a little town called Greencastle. It's not the worse place I lived, but it's not the best. Lots of great views in the mountains !!! It can be depressing. Someone told me once that you need to grow where you are planted.I'm trying !

I left Pennsylvania in 1977 to go to college, and returned to Pennsylvania in 2004. Here's what depresses me about Pennsylvania: In 27 years' time, nothing had changed. The roads still are full of potholes, the politicians are still gleefully corrupt, the people are still waiting for the mining and manufacturing/industrial jobs to come back, and I still can't buy beer in the grocery store!
