The above post sums up nicely why I had to delete 9 recent posts from this thread. Guys, please, do not feed the trolls! Report them!

I used to think that PA was a bit depressing, but I've been searching through the City Data forums and found a whole bunch of positive comments about a town called Oil City. So maybe I have to reconsider... maybe there are some hidden gems in the state.
There's one guy who's so anxious to move to Oil City from Florida he's trying to sell off his prized stuffed toy collection, and anything else he can, to get the money to move up there. This place must be the real deal.

That would be our old pal, Need_Affordable_Home (NAH) who hasn't been heard from in many, many months now. The Oil City Saga was quite interesting while it lasted. It would be nice if he would come back online at some point to let us know if he ever made it to the Valhalla that is "Oil City." He became fixated upon the town for no reason other than he could find "big cheap houses," even after some others alluded to the town's economic turmoils and isolated location. I have to admire blind youthful idealism like that, especially since I'm nearly as optimistic (and somewhat unrealistic) as he was to Oil City when it comes to Scranton, my own future Nirvana.

If you work through the internet, it would be ideal i'd assume since you wouldnt have to go to work. And you can buy anything you want on the internet, no need for stores (except gasoline. Some places you can buy groceries though).

Is it?? Let me count the ways. The weather is really awful. You don't realize how the weather affects your daily life until you get away from PA and see the sunshine once every 9 days. This weather is abysmal- with 6 months of rain/slush/ugly/cloudy morose days. I don't even want to get out of bed most mornings starting in Dec and ending in May. Good parts of the state are becoming overrun with gang violence (spilling out of Philadelphia) and illigal immigrants (Hazelton, Reading, Allentown) and the cooresponding violence that comes from competiting hispanic gangs. The economic outlook is looking poor with most areas losing major industry left and right. The youth aren't staying in the state because there are few jobs and the ones that do stay need to move to Philly/Pittsburgh leaving towns of small towns and cities with dying populations and no hope of revitalization. Basically I'm here until I figure out where to move then I will be glad to leave. I do love the vibrant colors of the fall and the few beautiful spring days we have before the weather turns super humid and the sun gets blocked by the thick packs of mosquitos.

If you think PA is really overrun with illegals and gangs...you have clearly NEVER spent any time in the South or West. Talk about crime, drugs and illegals! PA's problems are minuscule compared to these areas.

I just moved to central Pa last summer from Maryland and I found it to be more settled and calm compared to Maryland. The sun doesn't seem to sun as much, but I'll take the piece of mind anyday compare to (20 mins outside of Baltimore) than back in Maryland anyday! Just drive around and you'll appreciate the agriculture, amish and mennonites. Boy, we have alot to be greatful or do we.............?

Default salphonsel

I guess I couldn't blame a 23 year old for leaving Greenville, Pennsylvania's shells of factories, borded up store windows, and gloomy winter climate for the sunbelt. I left Greenville at 23, lived and worked in Nashville for 23 years, then proceeded to Florida. When I visit Greenville, I can look beyond the rust and bad roads. I can take in the rural splendor and serenity, eat Majestic hot dogs, fish in the lakes, shoot hoops at Riverside park, and visit my friends whom I admire and envy for staying. My close friend put it best: "Greenville is still here, you just have to dig a little deeper".
