Default Diversity in Butler, PA?

Hi,

My family and I are considering moving to the Butler, Pennsylvania area. We were wondering what are the best areas and school systems for supporting diversity. Most of my family currently lives in southern Illinois where there has been a lot of hatred for anyone who is different. I was wondering what the communities around Butler were like. Are they supportive and accepting of different ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and cultures? Our daughter is getting ready to start school soon and I would like her to go to school in a more tolerant atmosphere. Any advice or insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you talking about Butler township, near Hazleton? If so, keep on walking, because that is a very white area, with little tollerence for diversity of any kind. We lived in Drums for three years, and being from Long Island, the glaring lack of diversity was really strange.

I am referring to the Butler that is north of Pittsburg on the Western side of Pennsylvania. Is this the same area?

No. Two completely different areas, about 5 hrs. apart.

Max123,

I grew up in the Butler area, and I will say that there aren't very many ethnic minorities. It's pretty white. However, I've never heard about any big problems with racism there. The southern part of Butler County is becoming suburban Pittsburgh, and is similar to typical American suburbs: fairly affluent and well-educated. I would say if you are worried about racism, look at moving to that area.
